No I don't use any ankle support. I do however, have an extremely weak right ankle. I broke it twice and sprained it several times so it tends to roll over easily. In the end I think the best way to mitigate re-injuring it is through proper training and strengthening of the smaller muscles around the ankle. I strength train 2 to 3 times a week and almost all of the exercises are done on a balance ball which is helped tenfold. Another way to decrease the likelihood of you rolling your ankle is running in a lower drop shoe. Now, I'm not saying a zero drop shoe, just one with a lower stack height than usual. For instance a lot of people trail run in the Solomon speed cross, however due to an extremely high stack height and narrow heel, people tend to roll their ankles constantly in those shoes. So, if I were you I would stay away from things that are going to restrict the natural movement of your ankle and focus more on strengthening the muscles and finding shoes that will help support you while you Trailrun.

I actually use the salomons speedcross you speak of. Love the grip but I agree with your take on them.

Hell of a way to start the weekend off!

Off topic question....When you're trail running, do you use any ankle supports?

Jacked up my ankles a few times now and need some extra support from rolling or getting sprained.

For instance a lot of people trail run in the Solomon speed cross, however due to an extremely high stack height and narrow heel, people tend to roll their ankles constantly in those shoes.

I switched to the Salomon Wings Pro for more ankle support; extremely stable although they ride on the firm side. They were just discontinued so you can generally find them on sale now. Haven't worn the wings pro 2, but I handled them at REI and they look like the ride might be softer though less stable than the originals ( to be fair the originals are built like tanks; not exactly the most agile of shoes so less stable might be a plus). The wings pro 2 seem promising.

Agree about the speed cross, lots of pronation with those.

Over Pronation

Just curious, can you trail runners use Superfeet in your shoes or are they too unforgiving? (I always assumed they'd make the ride too harsh.)

I use Superfeet Green in my hiking shoes to help with over pronation, ("blue" in my weight training shoes), and I think I may not even need them in the new Oboz Bridger's that just arrived yesterday.

(It's my first time trying the Oboz brand, (usually have gone with Merrell, Lowa or Keen the past several years), though I'm having replacements sent as there was a defect in the right shoe last that raises the toe area a bit too much and causes the shoe to rock some when placed on a flat surface and touched lightly. The other shoe is dead stable. They are super comfortable and fit me great otherwise.)

Got my interior just the way I want it (for now).

1. Added a Nite-ize steelie to hold my phone under the security light.
2. Cleaned up the dash.
3. Ram Mount.
4. Added a locking latch to the drawer.

There's literally nothing "floating" around anymore. By that I mean, things in my cup holders, seat pockets, doors....that crap drives me crazy.

Love my Steelie ball too! Great product.

Got some great runs in this morning. After that the GF and I went ice climbing.

An update on the drawer and platform: Hands down one of the best additions I've made to the Runner. It gives me more room to stack, organize, and hide gear when needed. Because it's carpeted, everything is whisper quite and doesn't rattle around. The latch I added keeps the drawer closed and it doubles as security since it has a key lock as well. The beer bottle opener doubling as a handle is GENIUS and the top compartment, which holds all of my ski clothing and items that need to readily available has been a blessing. The only thing it's missing is a secure way to store my camp table...but I'm working on that.

Great skis. I'm running an older pair of Völkl 5 star that still perform beautifully.

Great work Jake! Love your edits bro, I just gave you a follow on IG. I'll have to spend half a day scoping through your thread, looking forward to seeing more.!

Any update on the 255/80r17s now that you've had them a bit longer?

Looks: I'm not so keen on the tall and skinnies. I think I'll go back to a 285 once these are worn out. I'm big on functionality, but I really like the way the 285 looks on the 4Runner.

Road noise: Very low, especially when compared to the Duratracs. It's a night and day difference. They are also a lot smoother on road, which is a plus.

Offroad: So far I've done a lot of snow, dirt, mud, and unimproved roads with the Coopers and I have to say, they handle much better than the Duratracs. I feel a lot more confident when entering turns at speed and they seem to clean a lot faster.

I just ticked over the 5000 mile mark with the tires and probably 1000-1500 of that is off pavement so I've got a pretty solid handle on how they perform in that respect. Overall I've been very happy with the performance even though I'm still on the fence with how they look.

Well, short of climbing an 8000m mountain (which is on my radar:smokin:) I've just about maxed myself out. This image is entitled "The Journey". Deep in a canyon far from civilization, we drove for hours in a dried riverbed through Namibia, Africa.

.........I would have titled it "BAMF's"

More photos of that dog.

Also, Caylen, so hot right now...Caylen.

I love it so far. It fits my style of driving and needs. As you can probably see, I'm more of an overlander than anything so having an OME lift was an obvious choice. So far, I've abused the sh*t out of it and it's still going strong! :boxer:

Still have good things to say about the OME suspension? You seem to use your 4Runner in the way that it was designed to be used. Upgrading my suspension in the near future and OME is high on the list.

Thanks!
