Hey, navyaircrew!

How'd you like them Nitto Terra Grapplers? They look nice and priced right, and their tread pattern is very similar ot the Toyo which I have enjoyed--but they are pricey. SO how do they perform? Ice, rain, dry? Tread wear?

Inquiring minds like want to know....
 
Nitto tires...

Well, when i first mounted the rims/tires.. i had a hard time finding a place that did the correct job.... i went to pepboys and they mounted/balanced them for me, put them on the truck and away i went... i drove from pensacola florida to louisiana and there was a terrible shake in the car.... and i thought, oh my god, did i just make a mistake.... well, i brought it to sears in lafayette louisiana, my home, and they popped the tires off, rebalanced them and still, shook, but not as bad.... so i just didn't know what to do.... sears showed me how the rim wabbled on the machine even without a tire.... so i thougth that maybe it was a bad rim.... only until i went to desert rat, on a trip from pensacola to los angeles to ship my truck to hawaii where i am now, did i get the problem fixed... the guys there , rebalanced them and they ran perfect....

guess i just chaulk it up to experience with the machine helps....

as far as the tires grip... i think they hug to road alot more than stock tires, they are 31.4" tall, and 11" wide... they grip perfect in sand, and mud... ice i dont' know, but i lived in icey weather before, i swear bye blizzak ice tires, from my days in japan ... those things grip like no other...

overall, i like the tires alot... the tread wear is better than bfg's... so... i was sold...plus they look great...
 
Congrats navyaircrew. It was easy to tell that you would be the next 4ROTM because you not only have beautiful pics, but they are also completely diverse and showcase your great mods. I love the combo of that brush guard and those beefy tires. Once again congratulations and enjoy being 4ROTM.

Sorry dude it took so long to get back to you.
I fly the OH-58D, but haven't flown in a while.
I do miss flying as well, and should be back up within a month or so.

Are those rims 18x9 or 9.5? Also, do you know what the offset is?

Wow your 4runner looks amazing! I really like how it looks with the headlight guards removed. Do you have any better pics of that? Also, do you have any problems with the tire pressure light coming on? Anyways it looks really great, and also a big thanks to all those who help us keep our freedom! :bigok:

Hey , thanks... the pics in the desert were at Ocitello Wells in SoCal... awesome to wheel out there, but bring lots of water in case something happens, just think of survivor when wheeling out there.. plus, i was all by myself, so, dare to be brave i say!

um, the tire pressure light is always on, HOWEVER, i have been told that manufacturers make the air pressure sensors for the rims, just have to get different degree mounting brackets inside the rims for the air nozzle... and , these bad boys are about $40 bucks a piece... so... i just look at the light and say "yep, light is working fine!"

reverse psychology works wonders....

i have completely taken off the front guard... only to hack it up somemore and use the frame for what i want it to look like, but that project won't take off till summer time...

BTW, VOLANT contacted me and IS sending me the final production to replace the prototype C.A.I on my truck... when i get it, i'll take pics and post them... it works great... nuff said!

No wonder it was familiar, I've been there quite a few times. I know what you mean about bringing ample supplies when you head out there. I usually take about a weeks worth of stuff even if I'm going to be there for a day. I also take plenty of extra fuel --- not just for my benefit, but incase I run into someone else who needs help.

I am looking at 285/60/18 tires right now. How much trimming is needed to make them fit? (I am also leaning toward the daystar lift)

Hey i'll take pics of the interior, but it'll be awhile... cam is on the fritz...

with the tires, i like them alot.. low profile looking but aggressive tread makes it looks tough...

um, you can take off little mud flaps, and that'll give you lots of room, but you can't fit the tires on without the lift... i got the daystar 2 1/2 lift.. very happy with it, it's helpful a bit ... even after the lift, i had to move the front end of the inner plastic fenders forward.. it would rub a tad bit.. enough to aggrevate me, so i just moved it...:)

Navyaircrew, that is a bad ride. I have a question: What did you do about the spare. I read the thread I didn't see it answered?

i just didn't replace the spare tire yet... it won't fit under the truck... until i find a cheap tall skinny tire with same O.D. i am not worried about it... i'll just limp home if i have to... :)
