How many of your 4Runners are made in Japan?

I know when my grandmother bought hers, it had 0 miles on it, and it was also fresh out of the shipping crate it was in. Now thus 4Runner is mine. (Second owner, in family)
Just curious to see who else did the same/or was made in Japan.

Not quite. HiLux pickups and the HiLux SW4 SUV (4Runner: SW4 = Sport Wagon 4wd) for Latin America are built in Zaraté Argentina, including my '97 HiLux SW4 that was purchased new in Brazil. They are built mostly from parts imported from Japan. My ex- (who still lives in Brazil) has a HiLux Double Cab pickup built in Argentina factory equipped with a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. Production in Argentina continues to the current model year.

here in Brazil we have those that were built in Argentia and that were imported from japan.

My grandmother bought my 97 limited off the lot in December 96. It has stayed in my family and I'm the second owner (I got the vehicle as a 16th birthday present in 2007).

It's actually the "Hilux Surf".

Mine was made and sold in Japan. Hilux surf. I think it would super cool to show the original owner in Japan some pics of where his former truck goes now.

I have to correct this. Up until 2007, the HiLux SW4 made in Argentina was a 4Runner/Surf. In 2007, the new model was really a Toyota Fortuner, which replaced the 4Runner/Surf in many markets (but not Japan, North America, Europe, Australasia and China). Like the 4Runner, it derives from the HiLux pickup platform, but is directed at the third world.

There appears to have been a split in 2005, with the Tacoma/4Runner models in the first world and the newly designed 5th gen HiLux/Fortuner taking over elsewhere. Previously, they had different names, but were basically the same vehicle.
