Recently spent some time in Japan after I changed my flight itinerary since I didn't want to die from coronavirus and/or get stuck in China. I got to drive my FIL's new Land Cruiser Prado.

It's like an updated GX that doesn't look like a ripped up butthole.

It's not a head turner, but it's also not garishly ugly. It's spacious, has all the 4WD stuff we love on the 4Runners, and if Toyota brought one of these over as the 6th generation I don't think a lot of people would be upset. Everything about it is like a Limited, but better.

I think a lot of GX hate comes out of the fact that it is an ugly ass Lexus with that horrible grille. This looks like the current Land Cruiser redesign in the US and if Toyota wants a more 4Runner look, they could put a US corporate grille on them.

I wonder if Toyota has any interest in bringing one over to the US, or will they just ignore updates on the 4Runner and GX and let them die off?

Better looking than the Lexus and it has some chrome-y shiny parts on it. I like it.

The Prado IS the GX (or rather, the GX is the Prado) and there are several GX to Prado conversions on the Lexus board. GX does noy com

The GX rides far nicer than the 4R on-road and would be as competent off-road if it didn't have all that "different" bodywork hung on it. In the US, the GX does not come with CarPlay or AA, but otherwise does most everything better.

The Prado is also what they sell in most European countries as the Land Cruiser.

The 200 series Land Cruiser is only available in a few countries in Europe.

I don't know enough about the GX to know if the 2019 and up Japanese Prado is updated over what's available in the US. That's when they did a huge redesign that's not available in all markets.

Yes, the updates they did to the Prado in the RoW did not make it to the US.

I am 3 months from paying off my 5th gen...but if this thing came to the US as the new Rnnr i think i might seriously think about buying one.

and they sell them with both center and REAR lockers...per the 1:57m mark

i think the hard part to learn is...how much of this vehicle is similar to our beloved 4Rnnrs...

and sorry to say, for anyone thinking, TFL has already shown that the 2021 4Rnnr is the same as our current 5th gen, per their visit to some auto show. Showing that the SR5s are coming with a new trim level, featuring 'Trail' wheels, a new roof rack, special colors, and some other goodies as an appearance package.

at the 6min mark.

I was always under the impression that the GX is extremely off road capable. I don't know about the new ones with the smaller engine, but the GX470 2003-2009 first gen. Of course it's not talked about much on this forum but on ih8mud they off road the shit out of those boys.

Yes, the GX/Prado is extremely capable off-road, but the approach/departure angles are compromised because of the Lexus bodywork - plus it scares small children and animals.

I got caught up in the gxor crowd for a while. I would get a GX if the fuel economy wasn’t horrific. They are beasts though.

I like the understated look of the prado.

I wish we could get Toyota Diesels in the USA. Not going to happen.

My Project Manager in Africa had a diesel manual transmission Toyota Prado as his company vehicle. I drove it a couple times. It was a nice comfortable vehicle compared to my Toyota Hilux.

There is also the Fourtuner which like the Prado also has a locking rear diff.

2018 Toyota Prado vs Toyota Fortuner 4x4 comparison review

I have to say the Prado reminds me of an older Rav4 with it's tire mounted on the rear hatch.

That front end is pretty ugly, imo. Honestly I just dont really get what has been going on with Toyota and their front designs since like 2015.

Much less ugly than the GX. Great off road like the 4Runner. Might have a V8 in the US. And, TBH, I don't like how the facelifted 5th gens look, so looks aren't really selling Toyotas for me, unless it's the ass ugly GX. I just can't bring myself to buy one.

You can cut the bodywork off and mount proper off road bumpers on it if you don't mind hacking up a 60k truck.

So you copy my post word for word and pass it off as your own "inspiration"?

In what alternate universe is that acceptable?
