JDM Style Fender Mirror?

So I LOVE the "awkward" JDM look on a truck, such as the over abundance of mirrors that usually gets installed (please dont flame me!). I already have a backup mirror installed and it is fantastically practical.

I am just wondering if anyone has a fender mirror installed on their 4Runner and could post some pics and/or comment on the usability of it, as well as where you got it?

I see the imported RHD Hiluxes having them installed on the driver's side fender, so with a LHD vehicle, you would install one on the passenger side instead. It seems like it would be great for tight parking and offroading.

Not sure they made a LHD passenger side fender mirror, that was a JDM thing really. The Surf was sold in the UK in 96 new and a bunch more were imported there over the years, so check eBay uk, and join the surf forum to see when they part the trucks out, I'd say you are looking at $125 before shipping, just from what I have seen in the past.

The UK is also RHD so they also have the same mirror on the left fender.

Yes, I am well aware, I said UK because I can read eBay.co.uk and hiluxsurf.co.uk a hell of a lot easier than to read the Japanese versions of those sites.

The purpose of the fender mirror is to show the front passenger side tire area. So it is useless to install a fender mirror on the left fender to a LHD trucks. So I did this, and now I can see the front passenger door/sidestep + front passenger fender flare area and also to some extent my blind spot too!

Did you find an OEM LHD fender mirror? If so can you share the part number?

I have one on my truck from factory. There were two mirrors one for the 96-98 model and from 99-02. The former only shows a view on the passenger side and the latter has the passenger side and the front bumper.

In terms of usability the wing mirror gives a much more accurate view of your position on the road particularly if you have a wide body kit , and the mirror looking over the bumper is also not much help seeing the model it came on also had the fat lip bumper.( It appears you have driven over an obstacle before you have) For road use yes it’s maybe a little useful, not sure off road I haven’t done enough of that yet, but probably more trouble than it’s worth, of course this is just my opinion you won’t know for sure unless you try.

New to the group but here's my 3rd gen. Love how the Hilux Surfs look so here's my attempt on making mine look like it. So far I have the following OEM Hilux parts: Rear Spoiler, Window Visors, rear emblem and Fender Side Markers. Recently installed the fender mirror. Unfortunately, I couldn't fine an OEM LHD fender mirror so had to get a universal. Works well for blind spot and parking.

Window visors are OEM. I had purchased it from someone local who transports parts from Japan. He mainly brings overs parts for Monteros/Pajeros but here and there he'll ship over Hilux Surf parts.

I recently imported a KZN185 fender mirror alongside some wheels and figured I could give some info. The mirror added about $100 to my total importing cost (including the cost of winning the bid on YAJ) and was packaged inside the inner bore of a wheel, which ultimately meant that the additional cost was mostly just winning the bid.

The mirror will serve almost zero functional purpose since I am mounting it on a LHD 4runner. It is purely for looks. Sitting in the passenger seat of a RHD Prado with a similar fender mirror setup, you don't really see anything of substance.

Mounting it on a USDM fender will be a challenge since the mirror has a piece that protrudes past the surface of the fender and into a cavity on the JDM fenders. I will likely cut the hole needed to clear this piece and 3D-print a cup that sandwiches the fender.

The importer I worked with is Steve, formerly @Nerdgold.jp, now @jdmwheels.co on Instagram. Can't give enough praise to him, he was so easy to work with and did a great job packaging everything. He even went as far as taking the wheel weights off to save shipping cost for me. He was especially quick to reply, which is important when trying to win bids on YAJ. If you have the opportunity to import an entire fender assembly with the mirror attached, I'd probably go that route.
