Jeremy Clarkson Fired From Top Gear

Jeremy Clarkson has officially been fired as the host of Top Gear following a fight with a producer of the show, Oisin Tymon. BBC Director General Tony Hall confirmed the sacking in a statement, saying that the decision “was not taken lightly,” and that the BBC is looking to renew Top Gear in 2016.


The show had already been put on hiatus pending an investigation into the incident, with only seven episodes of a planned ten-episode season airing.

It is with great regret that I have told Jeremy Clarkson today that the BBC will not be renewing his contract. It is not a decision I have taken lightly. I have done so only after a very careful consideration of the facts and after personally meeting both Jeremy and Oisin Tymon.

Well it seems that Top Gear has just died. May and Hammond are pretty upset you can not replace those 3 they work amazing together.

It will probably end up like the american top gear, boaring, dry humor and oh boaring.
 
I saw this last night. The incident was obviously pretty bad for them to fire him. I enjoy the show, but I can see him being a real pain to work with.
 
Yep. He's the guy. Without him the show dies.

Probably some rookie producer who got their feelings hurt.
 
I understand that what Jeeza did couldn't go unpunished, but TG just generates so much CASH for them, this was surprising. I can't understand why they just didn't fine the hell out of him, and/or donate money to some anti-violence charity and be done with it.

I thought I saw somewhere that Jeremy does have some ownership rights to TG, so who knows. Other rumors are that he, Hammond and May could start another show on another network. SO, maybe this isn't so bad???

Jeremy owns/ed about 30% of top gear from what I have read but the BBC brought this on themselves in way. Everything that they record can be edited or not used right, so why did they chose to air those comments that he made during recording. They could have told them to do it over again or just not used that piece of footage. There has been a new host already picked Chris Evan’s he is some DJ or something like that who apparently is a car enthusiast since he owns a rare Ferrari GTO California.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Jezzer. But this isn't the first heck this isn't even the 2nd time he has had lets just call it an "occurrence". And while I do agree the show will probably suffer significantly without him. I do think his mindset is a little bullish how he acts. And always acting and than later asking for forgiveness is only going to work so many times, before management is going to just cut you off. The reality is it IS sad, but I do think he would be a pain to work with. The other 2 are talking about leaving, because I think they know if they continue the show without him or with a replacement it will be a flop, and they should probably get out while still in the positive light.
I guess I just don't understand the massive amount of backing that has been built around him, when in fact if someone else did this it makes perfect sense. Every action has a consequence. To keep promoting these individuals(professional athletes, hollywood, etc) who do have a little lack of respect and believe they are above others and the law is crazy.

I guess some other network could pick them up on a spin off, and rumors are it will be Netflix. But I'm am glad that BBC did cut him after his repetitive and often distasteful actions?


Sidenote I have watched every Top Gear UK and USA and love the show.

I guess you could say though BBC did bite the hand that feeds them, but I guess that really goes to show that it just wasn't worth it to them?.........or a giant marketing scheme and he will be rehired in a year and their ratings will soar? Who knows?

I agree completely, he acted like he was above consequence. I'm sad the show is gone but I'm happy to see him get knocked down a peg and lose his job over things that would cost any of us our jobs.
 
Never understood the affinity for Clarkson. I've only been watching TG for 4-5 years but he was my least favorite part of the show. The vast majority of his test drive commentary left me rolling my eyes or yawning.

Personally I think they should get either a real driver to replace him: Like Damon Hill or a real entertainer: Like Ricky Gervais or Sacha Cohen (in Ali G character!)

i don't really think there is an issue as to whether or not he should have been disciplined, its not the first time for him, and he may have a bit of an attitude issue.

that said, it is not the same top gear anymore, and i suspect theres a good chance hammond and may could be out too. like may said, theres a chemistry.
