Judging other T4Rs on the road. What do you do?

Stock TE, but I take it even further and I'm only 32. When the dealer finishes servicing mine and tops the tires off to 34psi I drop them down to 32psi because that's what the door placard says. It has to be the next morning though, with a full night to ensure absolute cold pressure.


One modification to the list - anything with a permanently installed roof-top-tent is a 10x points adder to its respective category.

I push the envelop; they put in 34, I bump it to 36!
I guess I don't quite fit neatly into your box. I'm ONLY 44, got a 10 y/o, never owned a WRX, and my t-shirt reads 'It's 5 o'clock somewhere". Although it's my daily driver, I love taking it and the family outdoors.

FWIW, the RTT is on the mod list!

Stock SR5 driver here but I do have two six year old twins but I'm over 50 too. So I guess I'm a soccer Mom and an old fart at the same time.

I feel you man. My brother in law always loved the 4Runners. We had a chat ( with the wives also ) And we bought one each ! I got a nice deal on a Demo Trail. He was more conservative and got a brand new SR5.

He's in the 50's me going to the 40 side of things... soon lol

I must say we are both very happy till this day !

Stock or modified from regular to balls out they are nice to see on the road imo.

I'm 38, will rely on the factory warranty, religiously perform service intervals without the help of dealership if possible, own a shat ton of Patagonia to deal with the extreme winters in TX, listen to 1310 the Ticket, and only real mod I have are sliders to wage war with doors in mall parking lots.

OP pretty much has me pegged!

Agree with [MENTION=96008]Engineer[/MENTION], grateful for all the stereotypes, good or bad that keep the 4R a profitable vehicle for Toyota to produce.

Well damn it....
Look at my profile at my age...it's only a number.
Modified SR5P and I use it for what it's intended for and when drivers of TRD Pros go by, it makes them turn their heads too.....
Take it in for scheduled maintenance save the dealer items they try to push on me.
Listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush, etc.... and old school rock and some jazz.

So, I have no clue as to what category I fall into, maybe none. :clap2:

I break it down a little differently:

Stock Limited/SR5/Trail: Wise person who bought a good SUV.

Modified T4R:
1. All the "stuff" like light bar/roof rack/lift/bumpers/winch/RTT, but NO scratches: poser.
2. Some practical off road stuff and scratches/dents: the real deal...

I see a lot of "expedition overDONE" vehicles here in Alaska, almost like they watched all the XOverland vids three times and think they need all those things to enjoy the great outdoors, but a closer look provides very little evidence they are actually used off road as equipped. I appreciate the rigs, stock or modified, that are used as designed, and show it.

I'm 32, I've seen Expedition Overland, only have cruised the "family friendly" off road areas, and only stickers are FD and t4r.org ones!

Well, I'm 47 and have a TRDP. I don't yet have an Affliction tee, but that's only because I'm too old to know where to buy one.

But, at least I did pay way less than MSRP!

44 here. Have TRDP. I do know what an Affliction Tee is only because I see wanna be tough guys who have never been in a street fight in their life wearing them.
As far as paying MSRP, I lost on that front big time. By my own admission I wanted what I wanted and have the means, but still feel like a dipshit for paying over MSRP.

This thread is great for many reasons, but from my perspective, mostly because people who buy a purpose-built vehicle for the right reasons are usually interested in others driving the same vehicle, and we're often completely disappointed by who we see behind the wheel. Anyway, pushing 40 here. Sadly, my image is worse than a high maintenance soccer mom based on the key from the original poster. I feel like most who see me in a GX think I'm a doucher who bought it because of the lexus badge and can't change a tire. I feel better from that perspective driving my wife's limited but still not quite right. I doubt any suv will ever suit my personality as well as my '03 V8 Sport Edition did.

This is cool to see. Young or old, SR5, Trail, Limited, and even Pro, mod or not . Such a good platform to use and live, what ever expression and lifestyle you want. With one thing common in all of them all great rigs and a great group of people that drive them.

• Auto running boards likely means commuter vehicle only.
• Running boards/n-fab steps means there might be some light off-roading, but mostly a pavement queen. (FWIW I fall into this category)
• Sliders without any dings or scratches tells me the only thing leaving the pavement is their imagination.
• Sliders (and running boards) beat to hell tells me they get down... or ran over a mailbox once. :lol:

Of course I dont pre-judge too hard. Its fun to actually meet the people to confirm or disprove. :cheers: For the most part 4Runner owners are good peeps.

ha! this is awesome!! My wife drives the 4runner trail....its stock (except the Rigid fogs and tinted windows BUILT NOT BOUGHT!!!!) we are late 20's, and will soon be all about that overlanding RTT LYFE!
