Judging other T4Rs on the road. What do you do?

I have a modded trail edition and I'm in my early 30s. I do go fishing or camping every weekend if I can. Never had a off road capable vehicle and this is my first so I do plan on hitting more trails. Most of my mods so far are stuff that I'll actually use. Some of them are for the "cool points".

I'm wondering how other folks judge the other 4Runners you see before you get up close and see the driver. This is a tongue-in-cheek thread but I realized that I totally expect to see the following drivers when I approach these different rigs. Sorry in advance if anyone gets offended.

Stock SR5 - Late 20s/ early 30s female; potential cross-fitter.

Limited - High maintenance tennis / soccer mom.

Stock Trail Edition - Late 30s to 50s male; probably has extended warranty and never is late on a service. Radio playing local news/talk.

SR5 w/ Tires, Lightbar - Late 20s male, probably has an Instagram account and "vapes."

Modified Trail Edition - Early 30s male, goes "overlanding" to the lake campground on the weekends, some kind of "expedition" sticker on a window.

TRD Pro - Affliction T-shirt; previously owned a modified WRX.

Am I the only one with such horrible preconceived notions?

Somebody should have told me sooner that I should be owning a stock trail, looks like I have gender identity issues.

Stock SR5 - Just wanted a rough and tumble SUV for hauling kiddos sports equipment around. Usually just cruising around minding their own business. Still wonders daily why they just didn't get a Highlander.

Limited - THE soccer mom or blinged out crowd choice. Leather AND Dubs...?! Sign em up. #BlizzardPearl.

Stock Trail - REI membership always within a NorthFace/Patagonia jacket pockets reach. Sometimes a member of the KDSS master race.

Modded Trail - Has seen every episode of Expedition Overland multiple times over...ALWAYS a member of the KDSS master race. "Oh...your suspension is neither DYNAMIC...or KINETIC?!" Has a memorized speech to recite when someone asks if that's a TRD Pro.

TRD Pro - White Oakleys/Arnettes. Rockstar Energy Drink, Ed Hardy Shirts/Hats when not rocking the Metal Mulisha tank top. Can usually be seen absolutely spotless and detailed with NFabs and a Gobi rack at your local outdoor mall fully articulating on parking blocks. Unless your name is LawnDart...then you just break the interwebs all day, everyday.

I really should have bought a stock trail...dammit!

But I do need to haul kids around, still glad I didn't get a highlander (although they were cross shopped.

I guess here's my take...it's more divided between the 10-13's and the 14+s....instead of writing out every model for each...I'll just say this...(and this really only is about the area I live in...I see plenty out there on the instawebs that don't fall into this category)

Lifted 14+s. Boring ass middle aged white dude with a dull cubicle job. has never has dirt under his nails. and paid a dealership to do any and all work to his truck. his "outdoor" lifestyle involves using his grill on his patio in suburbia.

2017 TRD pro here. 30 years old, no affliction tee, don't use the word 'bro' but I do vape. Haven't had a real cigarette in two years after smoking for a decade. I do light off roading and just ordered c4 sliders with the pro step plates haha which to be honest will probably never be bashed against rocks. They're for the kiddo and my lady to get in easier and for me to get to the future roof rack easier. Got the pro because other than those two upgrades it has everything I wanted to do to the truck done with a warranty and slightly higher potential resale value down the road.

yeah, well, i tried. middle aged black man riding in an SR5 with AT tires...and occationally youll find the beautiful middle aged African American woman to whom i am related by marriage behind the wheel. i take it into the dirt, she does not.


she once told me, when I first brought the vehicle home, that while she was sitting at a stop light, another older 4rnnr came up next to her, a middle aged gruffy white gentleman driving, stretching his neck to see who was in the drivers seat. she said he looked a little disappointed when he saw who is was...guess he had your list with him...sorry

My wife likes the 4Runner because the rear window rolls down and it looks nice, but she likes driving her 4WD RAV4 Limited better because the T4R feels like a big truck.

When I drive the RAV I feel like I'm in a freaking rally car. :lookout:

45, with a TRD Pro. I'm a loyal Toyota owner. Started driving a Toyota truck when I was 17. Have had several 4Runners and Cruisers. I would say anyone driving a 4Runner stock or modified is very SMART. Nothing else out there compares to this vehicle.

I do have a Gobi ranger rack and a guy at the Lexus dealer called me a redneck when I was picking my wife up from dropping her car off for service.
Then the next minute a guy comes out from service and asks if he can take a selfie with my 4Runner. Ha!

The other day I come out of Home Depot to catch a guy gazing at my 4Runner and the Gobi rack.

Ha, sounds like my Forester driving wife. She hates driving my SR5 (just Cooper at tires, boring).
I find this surprising since most 5th gens around here seem to be driven by the ladies...

Limited - Anyone who like a bit of luxury but does not want to spend too much going into a Lexus. Or, people "in the know about FT 4WD."

I'm the one who wanted FT 4WD. Also as far away from High maintenance soccer mom as you can get.

I think the wheels on a Limited tell a big story, if they are still stock R20's...
