Just bought a 93 w/117K original miles. Red out-grey in. 1 owner from Cali. Body is absolutely flawless and rust free-I'm in the car biz and went over it w/paint meter. Interior is the nicest original I've seen in a 20 year old vehicle! Roof, running boards, tow package looks never used! Tranny is new. Motor had Lucas in it and a sample shows those shiny metal flakes. Not sure what direction to go in w/motor-rebuild it or buy a rebuilt. Part of me wants to keep this thing as original as possible-but don't want to put stupid money in it either. Suggestions? Also-how about simple, dependable mods that might improve performance and/or fuel mileage?

Congrats on your 93!
Pick up the May 2013 issue of "Peterson's 4Wheel & Off-Road" magazine. There is an article called "The $4K 4Runner - Part 1: Lifting a Toyota on the Cheap" on page 34.
It will give you all kinds of ideas, and how-to ideas for very little money. Wish I had seen this before I started my build.

Thanks for the heads up-I'll pick up the Peterson's. I have a buddy who works at Essentially Off-Road so I'll hit him up for advice as well. This 93 appears to be a keeper, as the body and interior are in amazing shape. Will finish going through the initial inspection and make sure there's no other major issues, then decide on what direction to go and a budget. But would like some advice from some of you who've done this before.
Mods to improve efficiency:
1)mod air intake box for better flow/intake volume
2)headers(NWOR or the like) wt high flow muffler
Original parts are actually pretty inexpensive for these now, but are disappearing due to aging out. You might consider rebuilding what you have with upgraded factory parts(ie heads and head gaskets). Best of luck with it.
