Just bought a new 4runner and.......

Totaled or not totaled?
New 2023 4runner orp with 100 miles. I only driven this thing 3 times since I got it. Haven't even filled up gas yet. :(
A nissan altima ran a red light and hit the front passenger side causing my vehicle to do a 90 degrees turn in the direction they are going.

Oh Dude! That’s heartbreaking! I’m so sorry that happened. I hope everyone was ok.

If that frame is bent then I would want a new car.

I think that's just the crash bar that is removed when you install an aftermarket bumper.

If the frame is OK, looks like you can now buy a proper bumper.

If the airbags had deployed, probably totaled. You're looking at both fenders (inner & outter), hood, bumper cover/valence, grill/TSS, headlights/fogs, crash-bar, core support & front body mounts. Probably a radiator, maybe the clutch fan & shroud if the radiator got pushed into it. There are some hardlines up front below the grill (I think they are A/C lines), so maybe those too. Most of this stuff just bolts on.

The bracket on the frame where the crash-bar connects is definitely tweaked. It can probably just be bent back into shape.

Hate to see it happen, but the Runner did its job of keeping you (and passengers?) safe! I'm a little curious what the verdict will be for insurance.

Sorry that this happened. It's not totaled assuming the airbags didn't deploy. My guess is $8-10K, mostly cosmetic stuff. The crash bar/bumper assembly appears to have pulled the frame mounting plate downwards a few degrees but that's an easy fix. I imagine the radiator support sheet metal will need to have the rivets drilled out and a new support/sheet metal spot welded/glued back in.

If it isn't considered totaled, I would ask for diminished value since it is practically brand new.

Sonny is right...you should be compensated. There is a actual loss beyond the actual repair cost.

If you were involved in an auto accident that was not your fault, you may be able to seek compensation for the diminished value of your vehicle from the other party's insurance company. The process typically involves the following steps:

Obtain a repair estimate for your vehicle: You will need to take your vehicle to a reputable repair shop for an estimate of the cost of repairs. Make sure to retain all documentation related to the estimate.

Determine the diminished value of your vehicle: You can hire a professional appraiser to determine the diminished value of your vehicle, or you can use online resources to estimate the value.

Submit a claim to the other party's insurance company: Once you have the repair estimate and the diminished value estimate, you can submit a claim to the other party's insurance company. Make sure to include all relevant documentation, such as the repair estimate, the diminished value estimate, and any other supporting documentation.

Negotiate with the insurance company: The insurance company may or may not agree to your claim. If they do, they will provide you with a settlement offer. If you don't agree with the offer, you can negotiate with the insurance company.

Hire an attorney: if you are not able to reach a settlement with the insurance company, you may need to hire an attorney to represent you in court.

Keep in mind that the process and laws for Diminished Value claims vary by state and it's best to seek the advise of a local attorney to guide you through the process.

Do not sign anything without thorough evaluation. good luck!

So sorry this happened with a brand-new truck, but it looks fixable. Assuming the wheel/suspension were not involved and the frame isn't bent most of that is cosmetics, and hopefully it will look brand-new again once fixed. Best of luck!

Primary aspects of the ladder frame wouldn’t have been affected there it’s been tweaked up front where it all goes together like Leggo. I agree with the other guys estimate. In Toronto that’s an entire front end for sure with this insurance industry, If the front tire has a mark, mudflap, those too. 25K easily.

Doesn’t look like anything major component wise like Rad or AC system but again, out here it would be stripped down back to the doors and looked at. Put on one of those laser grid machines shined at the front to make a final decision if it’s going back together while you wait on all those new parts for months.

No way the insurance out here would risk even an old nut or bolt going back on it. Patched wiring, nope. Plastic push clips etc., they can’t risk anything OEM safety system wise being misaligned a hair or whatever. They would have it sent to a dealer for final calibration and sign off. So anyway, I’m afraid you’re in for a long road to repair if they decide it’s worth it. Sorry about your luck and glad you’re ok.

Here's my two cents on bumpers having own my truck for 10+ years.

If anyone plans on keeping their *modded 4R for a long time, get a metal bumper.

My truck has been stolen and crashed multiple times, once with a partial bumper.

I now have a full metal bumper and will never look back.

Before and After

ONE other thing and this is important....

many time an insurance company will try to use non oem parts or even oem parts from another wreck. If your truck was 2 years old its hard to argue if they put a 1 year old headlight assembly (from say a totaled truck that hit in the rear and the lights are good)as they are getting it back to pre wreck condition...they call these part "like, kind or quality". BUT your truck is NEW, so only settle for NEW parts. Their insurance company may try to screw you and sat that the policy calls for LKQ parts and you get what you get.....remind them that their policy / contract is with THEIR insured, not you and you need to be made whole and in reality a lkq part for your truck would be new. Remember, they will try to screw you to save themselves money.
