Just installed toytec ultimate, CV joint is puking grease

So I just installed the Toytec ultimate lift on Pancho, and now the drivers side has puked a bunch of grease out. I know that some is expected to seep out, but at what point should I be concerned? It is all coming out of the bottom of the boot that is attached to the dif.

I did not add any additional lift to the coilovers, left them just as they came from Toytec

And a picture of Pancho with his new look and stance. Wheels are 16x9 Axis Regulators, and yes I am going to repaint the yellow rings on them. I worked for Axis back int he day, and my old boss hooked me up with these when he took them off his FJ.

You can put some worm gear clamps on them. (Be sure the gear does not touch the side of the boot. Just the clamp part. Mine ripped there because the gear cut the boot .

You can also try the boot slide mod as seen on tacomaworld

I ran mine ripped for like 4k miles then replaced axles. Thinking of rebooting someday.

Welcome to the club. You don't want to go too long with them puking grease. Get a rebooting kit from Toyota and do both sides. Redline CV2 grease works well.

The reboot kit, is it for both boots on the axle? So four pieces total, or just for the upper section? Also is this a part that needs to be ordered, or should they have it in stock at my local dealer?

Thankfully one of my clients (I am a digital marketing consultant for auto dealerships) is the local Toyota dealer less than a mile from my office. Discount time!

Lots of guys (myself included) just replace the CVs entirely, then keep the olds and rboot for trail spares.

NAPA sells lifetime warranty CVs for about $100 each, i've been running them for a few years and several wheeling trips on them. This way i'll never have to 'buy' another CV, if one breaks on the trail... I swap with my spare, when I get back to town I bring my broken one to napa and get a new one... repeat. It costs a little more this way but if you plan to wheel with IFS it's good to have a spare CV.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it happens to everyone. Does it happen to some people, sure. If you're not going to replace the boot. A temporary fix would be a hose clamp, but get a lined clamp like in the picture below.


You can get split boot kits from Toyota as well as most auto part stores, and they actually work pretty well. I've been running one for a couple thousand miles now with no issues. The best part is the you don't have to pull the cv and take it apart to install.

I installed the same kit and had the same problem. I rebooted the cv's and have been golden ever since.

Some long travel boots aren't a bad idea for the lift angle.

I noticed oil all over my rear diff after I did the lift. Any ideas on that? I went up to 17" rims on 33s. Would I need to change the gearing?
