It isn't black or limited, but it doesn't have a moon roof which is extra headroom for my 6'5" self. Going to finish up paperwork on Saturday.
Only 2 owners and spent it's entire life in Texas....no rust!

What do you think?
Also, what options do I have to lock the rear diff similar to what the e-locker does?
Lastly, can I haul it home on a trailer with my 97 with TBU?

Looks nice, funky filter/effect on the pictures, wonder why the dealer did that. D'you check the Toyota Owners website for maintenance? Good luck!
 
Only info on Toyota was a license plate bulb replacement.

Carfax shows a good oil change history. Not sure on TB and WP. Will probably end up doing that later this year.
 
Very clean inside and out. If it drives well in 2 and 4WD and shows no leaks, has some decent tread left and clean fluids, you look like you found a good one.
 
Matt, from the dealer, stated they check all the fluids and change them if need be. They dealership sounded pretty reputable and didn't give me any sales pitch. Very nice and courteous.
He said, "we aren't the kind of place that just washes em down and throws them on the lot. We check them for mechanical and safety issues. It is a very clean truck."

Other than red and not limited it is exactly what I wanted.....I hope.
 
Every dealer wants to make as much money for a little effort as possible.

Take it an independent mechanic to get checked out.

Read the buyers guide. Put it on a lift.
 
bought my black 4x4 in fort worth tx a year ago for 9k with 157k miles. I think you did well knowing its from tx with no rust.

That's true. Andi agree with you. I'll get up under it and check for oil leaks. Drive it. Etc.

I have a 97 and a 00 already that I've done all my own work on so I have a good idea what I should see under there.

Unfortunately I don't have time to take it to a mechanic. I may be rolling the dice a little, but to my advantage it is a 4runner we are talking about.
 
I know when I bought mine the dealers told me that the only way to get one without the sunroof was to custom order from Japan. All the ones sent to the states had a sunroof automatically ordered. I didn't want one but couldn't find one without so I started asking around and that's what they told me.

Looks good though!
 
Enjoy, looks well cared for..........you should follow Brian's advice above, take it to a trusted mechanic and put it on a hoist.

this is a NICE rig, the service history is great, 'compared' to most car fax...
being a 2001, some changes...
no rr dif lock as they changed the brake system adding VSC (vehicle skid control) and A-Trac (auto traction control) both will keep wheel spin at minimum
you CAN disable both vsc and A-trac for some fun... I think it's andy mod?
IIRC you have AWD in 4hi and 4Lo, you can then lock your transfer-case to send equal power front and rear (button next to headlight dimmer) (correct me if I'm wrong) 99-00 can't AWD in low

with the different brake system, you basicly have a brake locker up front (EDIT: and rear)... better than previous years.

the pictures of engine bay show maint has been recently done... or steam cleaned.

seats are clean!

I'd say go and enjoy. I would have bought that truck in a heartbeat. great find!


hauling it with another 4runner I don't see any problems... just go slower and leave alot more braking room (even wth tbu just to be safe). I would use a car dolly, not a full trailer to keep tongue weight at a minimum unless you have already replaced the rear springs. and put trailing vehicle in N on the transfer case...

I am aware of all the differences in the years. I was looking for 99 e-lockd but it got tired of trying to find a decent condition one under 10k.
I don't know that I will off road enough to warrant an ARB....but who knows.
Is ARB the only option to be able to select between locked and unlocked for the rear diff?

ARB is the best...
you CAN retro the earlier e-locker axle into the 2001, and run wires as needed, some have even tied it into the stock 01-02 wiring harness...

IF you add locker, you WILL need to disable your ABS VSC and ATRAC as it can hurt the system.

My 96 base model has no sunroof. Not sure if that's because it's a base model or because it's a Canadian 4runner. Whatever, I'm happy not to have it.
