Just rolled 200,000 on my 2002 4Runner today!

Big day for my 2002 4Runner. Did a bunch of preventative maintenance around the 80,000 mile mark. What should I be looking at now to fix or maintain?

Damn, you've been doing a lot of driving.

Honestly, you should look to redo everything you did at 80,000. My advice:
Timing Belt/Water Pump
All drive line fluids
Plugs and wires
PCV valve
O2 sensor
Lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends
Steering rack and sway bar bushings

Even though none of these may be "bad" now, new parts will be better. And then she'll be ready for another 200K.
 
Congrats! When was last timing belt/water pump replacement?

Front-end suspension components, bushings, etc. would be a focus, too, for me.
 
All u need to do is t-belt water pump and seals,tune up if u havent done it recently and fluids also. I wouldnt touch the suspenshion unless its broke. Sensor wouldnt worry about them either and im only 16k before i hit the 200k mark
 
Awesome news!! Congrats!! I'm hitting 160k now. When I bought her she had 140K and the salesman told me she would be good for about another 30 - 40k. I had to laugh at him. I think I may have even told him he was a horrible salesman and didn't know diddly squat about what he was selling!

I bought me with ~144k from an individual seller. 216k now, almost 5 years later. Hope to have it hitting 300k eventually.
 
Welcome to the club. It's not that excluisve, kinda like the 2000 hit club in baseball. But it's still a proud moment. I had my wife take the pic of the odometer at 70 mph on I95 on the way back from helping my friend buy his 1990 Suburban.

Check the supension as well as all the standard stuff. Check the radiator and transmission fluid for bad stuff. And just show it some love!
 
I hate to say it but I strongly suggest you start saving up for new heads/head gaskets. 200k is a lot of life for this engine. If it were a human, it would be well into its 80s.

I suffered a cracked head at 199,800 miles. Everything worked fine until it happened. I had not seen a check engine light in 5 years before it went off.

Normal wear and tear wise, a major ($2000+) engine issue after 200k miles is perfectly logical and not a fluke. I read this thread a lot and it seems that there are always failures like this happening to high mileage members. There are several threads on just the first two pages of this section.

These are great trucks and I wish you luck, just be prepared.

I just rolled over 450,000! I love these 4runners! Mine has never broken down on me either! Just a starter and alternator. And im coming up on my 4th timing belt! I don't think I will ever have a Vehical this reliable. Still have factory o2's and cat. Etc.

I will believe you when you post a picture of your 4Runners dash with odometer. 3 posts isn't enough.

I want pics as well. You must hold the record for longest lasting o2 sensors. My rear sensor threw a CEL at 95k.

Back on topic. You should do whatever you did at 80k. Definitely timing belt time. Change your ATF and diff fluids as well.

No offense but that is terrible advice. Do a little research on ball joint failure on these trucks and see what kind of damage it can cause. Replacing them is cheap insurance. Mine have no play on them at all bit I just bought new ones anyway, piece of mind.

As for the sensor, like I said, it might not be bad, but it'll be better with a new one.
 
Nice. Congrats. I am about to roll 200k. I am at 199600 now and holding my breath. I buried her up to the doors on the driver side in mud two weeks ago. My starter began acting up.

It is bad advice but that Ball Joint job is like $400+ and that is a lot of money, i replaced the Ball Joints on the Jetta for like $70 total for the front 2 lowers. I am taking my chances on the ball joints i know many other high milage owners that haven't replaced them, i run nothing heavy over the front end like many enthusiasts do, and my front is not lifted, so the strain on the BJ's is about as minimal as it can be for a 4runner.

The rest of the suspension i would just replace because it makes it ride better.

Listen, No need to call me a liar because I just joined a forum and Have very few post. Not my fault if I know how to make a vehical last long :trophy:
