Hey all. Quick question for anyone who may have dogs. Anyone recommend any particular type of interior protection? More specifically the arm rest / console. My dog sometimes like to stand and more often likes to drool on it. Everything I have found is generic and loose or ugly. Any suggestions?

2 dogs here... both ride in the back seat. I've pretty much turned the back area into a padded dog area... there is very little that the dogs can actually damage now. However, everything can be taken out in less than a minute for passengers.

It's a good thing I love those 2 dogs.

We have the following items:
Door Guards I find these to be kind of cheap.
Seat Protector Very happy with the seat cover.
Mesh Guard This stopped them completely from getting to the front seat, and standing on the center console. The big dog can jump over it if she wanted, but she hasn't yet.

Sure, put em in the back. If you're concerned about muddy paws and other dog-related fluids, I'd recommend a weathertech cargo mat.

Ok cool thanks. Yeah I pretty much have my back seats removed as of now. Perhaps a net or something between the front seats would work. She doesn't tear anything up really, she just likes to fling drool occasionally. I also don't want to block the rear vents. I don't guess anyone makes a custom fit center console cover. I reckon Ill come up with something. Thanks for the input!

I didn't realize how priceless that sliding rear window would turn out to be. Can't imagine having a car without it anymore.

I just use a seat cover for my back seat. It's from Cabela's and it's pretty heavy duty. It protects the cloth seats against drool, mud, pet dander, hair, etc. Machine washable.

I just yell "Get in the BACK!!", about 100 times each road trip. Keeps the hot breath off your neck temporarily.

Amen. Whenever I run errands with the dog, once I get back to the car, never fail, she's sitting in the driver seat - all smiles. If only she had opposeable thumbs, I might consider teaching her to drive like Toonces the driving cat...

I keep my pup in the very back as well. He's got a lot of fur so I got a Husky Liner and that whole area is his to do what he pleases. It's perfect because I can just hose out all the sand and fur and everything is as good as new. He also acts as my back up camera from time to time. I originally had a gate setup but after a few months he got used to it and he won't try to jump the seat.

We had a pug who used to like to alternate from the backseat to the front. However, his nails would cause hims to slip and slide when he hit the console.

I found a piece of foam padding at Home Depot - about 7x4, I think. It came as either the foam or with a carpet-like surface, and was only about 1/8" thick. It had adhesive (non-marring) on the back and I stuck it on the console armrest so Millhouse could grip it.

It even came in common colors that would match Toyota interiors - the gray and tan.

He's a full golden and he's actually a rescue sort of. A family friend had him but they also had a few other dogs and he wasn't getting along with them so they asked if I could take him, best decision I ever made.

Nice. Dogs are indeed a man's best friend, aren't they.

Mine is a great traveler - sits in the car for hours quietly and loves the journey. But never one for the front seat, he likes to lay down and be well balanced, I suppose.

The back window was one of my favorite things about the 4runner. The only downside is that I need to get a turn down exhaust so it doesn't recirculate through the truck. It's funny because I'm constantly seeing people in the rear view mirror taking pictures and waving when they see the dog stickin' his head out.
