k&n airfilter.. does it work?

Hello all,
I have been hearing alot about the k/n my question is do they really work? are they worth it? I have no problem installing one but i want to make sure it's worth the Money. Many more question to come... thanks folks.

The best option with 3rd gens is to do the deck-plate mod and use a Trueflow filter.

I personally have a K&N drop-in and the deckplate and I've had no issues but I'd like to switch to the better filtering Trueflow.

thanks for the reply. I was curious. they are supposed to be easy to install, and are not too terribly expensive. I do not know too much about the system you're talking about.
how does it work? better than K&N?

I just tried TrueFlow

the True Flow filter is a tight fit inside the stock air box-but does fit.

I have had mine in about a week and a half and am very happy with it so far-had not yet had to clean it. I have not yet noticed any significant mileage or power improvements-but my V6 4Runner still seems like a rocket after coming out of the 4 cylinder generation 2 I had a year ago.

I will never use another K&N product in any of my vehicles. I stick to OEM paper filters, but if I were going to do a deck plate mod, I'd go with TF.

Kind of wish the 4Runner OEM filters were washable like the Land Cruisers. But $20/filter every 20-30k isn't bad at all.

I will go to the site and make a decision.. she will have to last me a while as she has been all paid of since 01 and i have been saving for a BMW m3 SO i fi take care of her she will last me a good long time.
I also have a company truck ,chevy FRAILblazer) that i take home, so she does not get used that much 104,000 in 10 years..

I dono what u guys are talking about with trueflow?
but i have a K&N cold air intake
it does give me a better gas millage
and sounds really loud when im over 3K RPM and idol is a sucking at the intake and gives the X-zost a little purr to the car.
i personaly love the K&N

I finnished my k&n today.. had some issues with hoses and such but all n all everything came out ok.. i'll post pics when i figure out how to do it... it wont be anything special- nothing you guys have not seen before, but i'll do it anyhow. thanks for all of the help.

Can I ask why?? Did you have a bad experience or negative experience, or just feel they aren't worth the money? My 4Runner had a K&N drop-in when I bought it. I will ditch it if it could be causing negative effects, but I kept it since it didn't actually cost me anything.

Simple logics, really. They say it offers more airflow, but still filters out the dirt and such just as well as OEM. How could that be? They are not increasing the size of the intake arm, TB, etc. Given the same surface area to work with, you cannot filter as effectively AND draw in more air. Physically impossible.

That means all they are doing is filtering less to allow more air to come in. Tests on bobistheoilguy and other independent websites show that K&N does not filter as well as the OEM paper. I do not care about the 10% HP increase (or whatever they say. I highly doubt that you even get that. More like 1%). I'd rather have a cleaner engine. Also, if you put too much oil on it when cleaning, it could cause the MAF to malfunction. That means more chores for you. And if you don't oil it enough, well, it filters even less. That is why I stick with OEM.

BTW, you can make your own K&N at home.
