K&N Filter problem

I have a 98 4Runner with over 300K now.
The past couple of years I am having some problems with K&N oil filters. They shake loose and I loose oil. For example I changed oil last weekend. Drove for 3 days. Then yesterday I had to use the AC, so a bit of vibrations. Today I moved the truck to the driveway to load some stuff. As it was sitting there I see oil dripping from below the filter. Check the filter, very slightly loose, but I was 3 quarts low.
The filter was tight enough, but I could feel oil on the bottom side of the filter.

Question- anybody have similar issues with K&N filters?

EDIT: moron me thought of my K&N CAI cone filter. your talking about oil filter. stupid me, ok nope ive never had a problem with any oil filter coming loose (i never have used k&n filters tho.)

Pull the oil filter off and make sure there isn't another gasket stuck to the filter mount.

Hand tight and then another 1/2 turn or so with a oiled gasket and it should not leak.

This. I've read about the gasket from a previous filter sticking on and messing up the seal. Haven't had it happen myself, but i could totally see it happening.

USUALLY when this happens it leaks immediately when you start it. the oil pressure blows out between the 2 seals.

not to say its not a good idea to check for it tho.

ive never used a K&N oil filter, but I cant really see it being different from any other filter. it must not be getting put on tight enough to start with.

With past experience there could be another issue joy quite as easy to see.

When you tighten the oil filter on feel around the out top edge that flushes against the motor. The gap should be same all around. Sometimes the threaded piece that the filter is screwed into can be bent cause it is hit by something and it causes the filter to be lopsided and loosen without warning.

Also try a different filter see if that helps.

I start to panic and jump under to find the oil filter was very loose. Tightened the filter and it loosened again in about a month time and I would just jump under and tighten it. After I changed the filter on the next oil change never had an issue again.

It may have been the wrong one and threads didn't match properly.

I have been using the K&N oil filters on my 4Runner and my wife's Accord Coupe for the past year with no issues.

I've using the K&Ns since I got this vehicle about a year ago. No loosening issue here.

Yes I have had the 2 rubber ring problems before, and yes that happens immediately. I tightened down and no oil leaks today.

I am not sure, seems when the AC is on the engine vibrates a bit more and maybe it shakes the filter loose??

I just have to remember to look under the car every time I park it. I did go get a Fram Ultra or something to have as back-up.

Funny I have been using K&N for years now. With 300,000 that is a lot of oil changes!

By that idea it would mean that bumpy roads would shake off oil filters. Either you have double-gasketed the filter or have gotten a bad filter. Try swapping it out with another brand of filter like OEM.
