K&N intake popping noise with Lead foot

Getting back to the plugs and wires... Is there a place where you can watch the engine while it's idling in the dark..I mean total dark so if there is any arcing you will see it...

My thought is that it sounds like your engine may have a little ping to it... it can happen on n/a engines too. Just for ****es and giggles, try some premium fuel next time you fill up... just run it empty, put in 3 or 4 gallons, then go romp on it.

If the problem goes away, i'd say you've got a little pre-ignition going on.

I have the exact same issue with my 99. I also have k&n intake, and borla cat back. it seems to happen even in park when i rev the truck up fast, if i rev slow it seems fine. under acceleration same deal, easy on the gas it runs fine, try to accelerate hard it pops and seems gutless....i guess my first attempt would be to try plugs and wires. did you ever get this fixed tmaxx?

I've had the Injen for almost a month now with no problems. Like BFAD said try premium gas or a least mid grade which is what I've run since doing the ISR and Elbow Mod years ago.

Also, pull the 20 AMP EFI Fuse ~10 minutes - to reset the EFI system and see if that helps.

i actually did run premium on a tank and that did not fix the problem, it still popped under heavy acceleration, I haven't looked into it to much as I'm still planning my sell, only if i had more time to look for a buy, off the topic i had ordered some DDM hids a few weeks ago and finally got them, 55W 6000k bi-xenon and dang!! they are sooo bright idk how I've been driving without these things, the spread and coverage is amazing!

albpm- thanks for that pic ill try pulling that plug and resetting before i make my 250mile trip home tonight and see if i see improvement

well after doing a bunch of research i asked a buddy who is a mechanic, borrowed his scanner, and it shows bank 1 was running lean and bank 1 sensor 2 02 sensor malfunction on there (plus i found that the a$$ that i bought it from removed the check engine bulb - bad thing since my wife drive the runner mostly) i decided to start with the easy stuff...went to parts store and bought a can of Mass air flow cleaner, pulled the sensor off the tube and sprayed the cleaner on the sensor. let it work for a bit then sprayed more and carefully loosened any remaining buildup on it with a q-tip... BE EXTRA CAREFUL doing this its very sensitive, i pulled some of he cotton off the qtip and just pulled it thru on either side of the sensor...seems the oil off the filters like to coat the one side and cause issues. let dry completely and re_install (i used a can of air duster to make sure it was dry)...i didnt take pics, but even with the 02 sensor code still showing it runs perfect now! next to replace that 02 sensor.

Not the O2 sensor you need to clean the MAF and the Throttle Body as well

yeah, clean Mass Air Flow sensor i also cleaned throttle body, wow was it dirty. ill definetly remember to not oversaturate the k&n and let dry completely in the future
