Kaibab National Forest - Grand Canyon North Rim

Hey guys, I'm taking the family out to the Grand Canyon in July and we plan on visiting the North Rim. From what I can tell I should be able to camp without having to be in a designated campground if I stay in the Kaibad National Forest. Are any of you familiar with this forest? if so can you give me either some coordinates or locations that would be great for camping? If this is in the wrong forum I apologize, mod please move if so.

Get the Avenza Maps. It will tell you where you can go.

ALSO, Go to the EPA website. Download the WATERS Data file and that will give you another map of where you can go.

Also fire restrictions are on already so if staying outside of a campground you may not be able to have a camp fire. Always good to check the Forest Service website before you go, and inciweb for current fire status.

I've done the north rim a couple times. We camp at a place called Locust Point. It's on the western edge of the plateau and it's the midpoint of the Rainbow Rim Trail, an "epic" if you're a mountain biker. It's extremely remote; probably 25 miles from the nearest pavement, and the nearest pavement is still in the middle of nowhere. One of the darkest night skies I've ever seen. You can set up camp as close to the edge of the cliff as you want.

Between the Rainbow Rim Trail and the Arizona Trail, the Kaibab Plateau is a spectacular place to go mountain biking.

you could also call the local forest ranger district and talk to them about camp spots and they will also tell you about fire restrictions etc.
