How hard is that? Choose a 2012 Trail and tell me if the appraisal configurator has an option for KDSS equipped. This is the first elementary school step.

So...you pick one of the most unreliable valuation guides to prove your point? And coincidentally, it just so happens to be the one guide that doesn't have an option for KDSS when doing the appraisal? Good one, lol.

I've owned three previous 4Runners (1986, 1990, 2003) and a 2008 Lexus GX470, and another seven or eight Tacomas. None had KDSS--although it was an option on the Lexus.

We have had our new 2014 TE for about a month and have had it off-road five times on a variety of trails around here and over in Moab. It has also taken us over the Continental Divide on I-70 to Denver & back. IMHO, KDSS is a major improvement over the non-KDSS 4Runners. It improves BOTH off-road and on-road handling, and is truly amazing. Now that we have KDSS, I can't imagine buying another 4Runner without it. If it breaks, I'll have it fixed. Worth every penny.

I would say no on KDSS for one reason and that is cost/repairs. Plus the people wanting a Trail model typically like to mod/lift the 'Runner anyways. Dealing with KDSS and a lift as mentioned several times is just a pain. I guess if I want the more "high tech" suspension offered on the 4Runners I would want X-REAS anyways for the way I drive anyways.

Then again if you aren't going to mod it KDSS can do some really neat things off road. I would pocket the two grand, enjoy the legit rear locker, hood scoop and terrain select and call it a day. Then again my 4Runner has 2 options and 2 dealer installed accessories on it. The options being Blizzard Pearl Paint, and power front seats/premium cloth. The accessories being mud guards and floor mats. So take it for it is worth.

..I hear that the KDSS is better on road so I was going to go for it. I loved my X-reas on my 2005 Sport and can only get that on the limited now. I know its not the same....

I had a Sport Edition with X-REAS and loved it. That being said the on road manners of KDSS is very similar, and at least as good or better. However off-road it's dramatically superior.

I drove my buddys sr5 and he drove my trail with kdds and its night and day difference, he wishes he would have spent the extra cash on a trail with kdds.

Yeah, I put a couple thousand miles on a rental SR5 4WD and was very surprised how big of a difference KDSS makes on my Trail on the road. Much more comfortable on the twisty roads around here, and even seems to smooth out rough pavement. Off road, I'm not completely sure, but my Trail flexes much better than my 2011 TRD Off Road double cab Taco did, stock for stock.

Another vote for KDSS here. Very happy with it, went through some serious extra effort to get it without having to order it and wait 5 months.
Maintenance is yet to be seen, but with a sealed hydraulic system there is only so much to go wrong. Being tied to a dealership for those repairs won't be cheap, but that's the case with any proprietary system. With as much computers are in new vehicles these days, you're pretty much stuck with a dealer for half of your repairs no matter which brand.

KDSS Lift Options

I am new here and have been debating taking KDSS off my 5th gen TRD. I want to get the fox / king 3 in lift kit to preserve road ride while being able to go anywhere I want to go and then some.
What are your thoughts on getting the KDSS compatible versions of the lift kits, am I missing out on something if i get this lift and remove KDSS down the road? Should I just do that now if that's the goal?

With KDSS we are missing out on long travel...
I have 2014 w/ kdss and I guess this was the year with the most issues. Gangster lean on passenger side and bushing issues ... I still have half of my kdss; the rear one. I took out my front kdss bar and just left the piston dangling. No issues on drivability other than you have to be more conscious of not having it and driving accordingly.

I'm still debating about whether taking kdss completely out (as this rig will be stuck in the family and passed down to my second oldest.) and installing just the currie anti-rock in the rear...
