Keep headlights from fogging?

What do you guys use to keep the headlights from fogging after you buff them crystal clear? I shined mine up pretty good a while ago but now they are back to not-clear. Is there some sort of sunscreen you apply? SPF 45 or 55?:doh:

I did a wetsand/buff on my headlights a couple of weekends go. I used Jet Seal which I have read some good stuff about. Supposed to last 12 months but we shall see. I think if I apply some every 6 months, I should be good to go.

Xpel will outlast any sealant you use to protect the lens for years. I used to sell Xpel and used their products, they are excellet. Applying a head light protection kit to a new lens or a restored lens pretty much ensures it will never become yellow, faded or foggy.

Headlight clear wrap or spray on clear coat if you want to do it once and forget it for awhile. Just make sure it looks the way you want it before sealing it off.

I use Jet Seal or any other wax I have around as I try to claybar and wax the truck every 2 months or so. Just do a quick layer over the headlights.

You could also put some clear vinyl on them and they will hold the clear lens longer than the actual lens on the headlight...Would only cost about $15 for some die-cut vinyl covers and those are MUCH cheaper and faster to swap/replace if/when it's needed....just my $.02...

I used it to do my G35 headlights and they still looked great, 2yrs later, when I sold it.
I would take the headlights off of the car to eliminating the chance of overspray.

Wow thanks for all the responses guys. I've done a little research and it seems the XPEL headlight stuff is pretty thick and tricky to take off. The XPEL Ultimate used on paint might be a better alternative and a 60" x 1 foot roll is only $40 but it would need cut to size.

The spray-on clear coat sounds pretty easy though. Might try that first at least.

has anyone ever tried using 3M PPF film after buffing out the oxidation? we have some laying around at work, i was thinking of giving it a shot.

I finally got around to clear-coating my headlights from the suggestions in this thread. Thanks for those suggestions! Here is a quote from my build thread:

Decided I would tackle re-buffing my headlights. It's been almost a year since I last buffed them and they been looking pretty bad for a while now. This time I buffed them with my DA polisher like last time, but I sprayed an automotive clear coat (2k) over top afterward. Hopefully they will last longer with the clear coat. Lots of orange peel which I'll try buffing out once it fully dries. I obviously still have a bunch of the cracks in my old headlights but at least they are not too noticeable when they are clear.

It comes with a UV-resistant clear coat that you apply by hand rather than spray. No orange peel.

This stuff is amazing. Contains a Rustolium product and everything you need to prep and apply but water. Takes about 25 minutes. Kit contains enough coating to do two or three sets of headlights if all prepped and done at the same time. Looks great! I'll try to post pics soon.
