Don’t buy a new model for at least one year after its introduction. Let some other people be beta testers to work out the bugs.

Yep. Long lived vehicles. I’ve had three generations. 1st Gen for 13 years , 3rd Gen for 18 years, 5th Gen for 6 years and counting. I’ll let others ring out the 6th Gen problems for 5 years or so until I’m ready to buy.
Similar to me.
1st gen for 21 years
2nd gen about 3 months (it wasn't "bad" it just wasn't "good" either)
3rd gen 13 years
In my 5th gen now for just over a year
I was lucky to find a 2019 1 year ago with 10.5K.
Just what I was looking for too. TRD Off Road. Nautical Blue (not a dealbreaker but definitely my favorite color) No premium, no (faux) leather, no sunroof, and last year before all the safety sensing program nonsense began. Old tried and true drivetrain still made in Japan.
And I'm old enough that this just might be my last vehicle. :rip:

much has been said on this subject. When I look at the price of something new-ish and then the cost of tags, insurance and such. It's not very attractive. Besides I really don't like all the hi-tech stuff anyway. It's just something else to go wrong that is hard (and expensive) to fix. Keep it simple and it will be reliable and work a long time.
We just scored a loaded 23' ORP which is our 5th 4Runner and 3rd 5th gen. I was going to wait for the 6th gen but decided the deal was to good on the 23'. Just finished up lift and some other stuff and really liking the KDSS ride!

The wife and I have been driving Honda's the past 15 years, Honda Ridgeline's and Acura RDX's. These vehicles have been great for us and ownership expense has been pretty much just general servicing, do note we are only putting no more then 50,000 miles tops and keeping then for 5 years, or so. The wife got a new Lexus RX 350 which she wanted to upgrade from the RDX and myself decided I no longer needed a PU, decided to go with a new Lexus, or Toyota of some type, as Honda did not have a vehicle I was interested in. I was looking at the Lexus GX 460 and really liking the vehicle and it became my number one choice. One day I decided to go by the Toyota dealership and give the Tundra and Tacoma a second look and making sure the PU's were off my buy list. Wile there I started looking at the 4 Runner and realizing it was pretty much like the Lexus GX 460, drove one a went home and started reading about them. After two/three weeks of reading about them I had pretty much made up my mind the 4 Runner would be my next vehicle. No use going on about this, I love my 4 Runner, much more vehicle than I thought I would get and Old School suits my just fine, I'm 79.
