Hey all,

I bought my 02 SR5 last month and it didn't come with a key fob.
No big deal, but when i went to my Toyota dealership, he said mine didn't even come with one to begin with. He didn't seem to confidant though.

Anyone else experience this?

To be sure you can do the sequence that places the 4Runner in programming mode. If it enters the mode, a key fob will work.

Search for how to program a fob... Or perhaps someone else can link it, as I'm on my phone.

I know the older ones like mine was a dealer added option.

I have a video of how to.
I will check.

Thanks for the input!

You can look for the wireless entry chirper thingy on the passenger fender close to the firewall--right in the corner. It looks like this:

No thingy, no keyless entry. This is the only external evidence of keyless entry; the rest of the system (on an '02) is buried in the Body ECU and the Back Door ECU.

TheDurk,

Is it the same part for my 97 Limited?

On my truck the chirping died about 18 months ago.

I'm not clear on the pre-'99s. I believe the '97s were all port/dealer add-on jobs(the RS3000--not truly a factory, i.e. Japan installed system). The factory system used in '99+ is totally different. Sounds like the poster above has a handle on it, except for the use of the word factory.

96-98's were all port jobs. Two variations I have found. All regions except the gulf states would get the RS3000 alarms. Gulf states trucks would get the Securikey systems.
