Key transponder

Can anyone help with programming a key transponder for my 2007 sport edition. As usual, my 4runner came with one key. I have picked up a replacement key / romote and had it cut (Ace for $1) and have programmed the keyless remote ok, but I'm unable to get the transponder to sinc. I have tried using the key in key out and door open / close as posted for the 2004 - 2006 but with no joy. Does the 2007 have a different sequence?

I have a 2007 sport edition as well and had no problem at all syncing 2 spare keys yesterday. Do you leave the master key in the ignition during the key in/out phase?

I've tried every way, in and out. I can't get the "immobilizer" light to stay on when I remove the key. It just starts flashing. I'll keep trying. Wasn't sure if they was a different sequence for the 07.

I must be doing something wrong. I keep reading through the instructions but can't see what I'm missing.
These are the instructions I'm following:

1. Take the new key and one master key that can start your 4runner (old key) into the 4runner with you and close the driver's door.(immobilizer light should be blinking)

2. Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key, remove old key, Insert old key, remove old key,
Insert old key (immobilizer light should be off from the first insertion)

3. open and close driver's door six times (immobilizer light should be off)
Step 2 and 3 need to be done in less than 35 seconds.

4.remove the old key. immobilizer light should come on (steady on, not blinking)

5. insert the new key (immobilizer light should be blinking)

Then just sit there and wait, after about one minute the blinking immobilizer light should go off and you're done.

Hmm. That is odd. I know I thought it might be an issue completing steps 2 & 3 in less then 35 secs when doing this yesterday but that proved to be not the case and I'm assuming you had no problem with that as well.

Where did you get the replacement key from? The ones I got have the small dimple but I have know idea if that really matters.

Timing doesn't seem to be an issue. Everything up to step 4 is good, then when I remove the key the immobilizer light blinks instead of a steady light

Yes, your probably right that if the light is steady at the end of step 3, you must of done everything right up to that point. The only other thing I can think of is maybe the previous owner had used up the 5 key registration limit with the immobilizer and this is it's way of telling you that. I kind of doubt that though but on the other hand, some people are terrible for losing their keys. I have one uncoded key left and I'm at the 5 key limit so I should be able to test this to see if I get the same result but the wife has it at work right now. Maybe somebody else can try it or has a better idea what might be wrong.

Think I might have found my problem. I only have the valet key which apparently won't let me sinc the new key. I have spoken to the stealership who said they can supply me with a new "master" key plus programming for $120 ish ($65 for the key and $55 to program the transponder). Pricey but could have been worse. At least once I have the "master" key I will be able to do my own keys.

As I was reading the thread, I was honing in on Valet key.
But since you have confirmed it, I would go ahead and but the TechStream cable and software. I successfully programmed keys to my 2006 Tacoma using it. It is only $30 bucks on FleaBay so you already make your money back by not going to the Stealer.
(read up and make sure it works with a valet and a 4runner- I had a Tacoma and a master key and used the software vs. the method above--but even if it doesn't you might like the software for other purposes)

On the camrys if you don't have a master key the ecu has to reseeded and the new keys added. It cost me approx 250 to do mine. I provided the keys.

Glad you got it figured out but too bad the dealer won't program the replacement key you have. Pretty absurd charging $65 for one key. I got my 3 replacements for less then $30 including shipping to Canada. Oh well, like you said, it could of been worse.
