Kings or Fox

My Fox run great, I had zero lead time, mine shipped the following week, the casings are hammered and getting rusty that is my only issue, if you can call that an issue. 25k 20/80 off/on road.

That said, if I were to do it again, I would try out some Kings so I knew how both were.

also note that because king is a smaller shop they can do more custom stuff for you. Fox will do the custom stuff but it extends their lead times.

On my Jeep i had a set of fox 2.5" coil overs that i had custom made by fox. one of the things i did was have the shaft and the shock body hard chromed for corrosion resistance. it was an extra $350 (at the time) for all 4 shocks to be hard chromed but it was worth it for longevity. the hard chroming also helps protect the components from rocks as well

First thing to be said here is my view point is subjective and to be fair I have never driven on a Fox set up.
Just wanted to leave this link here because this video series has helped me learn a lot.
Ben Brazda @ Filthy Motorsports has some good stuff worth watching.

So in my real world experience with my 5980lb behemoth (CAT scale), this set up I have is amazing. I can stick my truck hard into a corner on pavement with confidence and also tackle some whoops on a power line road at 50 mph. I also agree with marshal about supporting a family business and I'm partial to the name Brett as well. Of course the color matches my Shoreline Blue Pearl so I can still go to the mall. :naughty:

Based on this info, I would save my $ and buy a stock suspension.

Is not that I don't care but money is not an issue here.
Reliable, comfort ( with knowledge that I have a lift) plus looks. If I install the stock suspension back then I have to remove the 34" tires. The truck looks without a lift and bigger tires.
I looked at Bilstein 6112 but I see the shaft is exposed and based on what I read here, unless is inclosed,, I am in trouble with salt exposure.
I don't understand why Toyota Pro have all theirs shocks enclosed and not the aftermarket

if you want the best bang for your buck and money isn't the issue - order a set of Kings for the front and rear and have the bodies and shafts hard chromed. the shocks will outlive the truck. Rebuilds every 75,000. any competent offroad shop can do the rebuild

4RunnerAquasport I'm very likely going to swap my front FOX 2.5 to kings because i'm sick of the suspension issues it's been causing me...

Have you had any issues with fitment with your KINGs 2.5s? Also, which specific item did you buy?

Hey Danny, still goin thru the bs huh.
Sorry Bro. Completely happy with everything about these bad boys. No fitment issues. I have landed this thing so hard I broke ASB disconnect links (went back to solid), but the KINGs, TC UCAs and stock LCAs just keep taking the abuse. I am addicted to it now so I'm upgrading to the TC dual set up soon.
King has a 5th gen direct OEM replacement 2.5 w reservoirs (Part# 25001-278) or with compression adjusters like mine (25001-278A). You can get an option for stock travel or extended travel which gives you another inch I believe. Then you just have to figure your spring rate. I have the E300-14-600 spring to hold the bumper and winch, dual batteries, compressor, etc. at ride height. I bought the coil overs and rear shocks in a GB a couple yrs ago with Down South Motorsports in San Diego. Micah Newton over there helped me with the process and was very patient with my inexperience back then.
I also would consider conferring with Ben over at Filthy Motorsports as well to get his take on your problems with the Foxes so they can document it. I think he might be interested on why this happened to your rig and maybe save other folks some grief. Love Ben's cutaway of the Raptor shocks in his video, VERY enlightening.
Good Luck Danny!
P.S. a tip for everyone else out there....Don't cheap out if you plan on adding a lot of weight (mine is @ 5980 lbs) and abuse it off road, you WILL break shit.

wheres that video??? didn't he mention it in another video that the Raptor suspension is basically glorified 5100's lololol.

Don't buy FOX... unless you have a TE with KDDS

Here is why

Reason #1
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/242236-sway-bar-links-torn-both.html

Reason #2
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/209619-fox-2-5-dsc-install-questions.html

I have more, but that should give you enough insight to their poor Q and A and their horrible turn around time on customer service

Good luck with either way!
I have a TE with KDSS - guess I'll be going with FOX...?

I've run Fox on several rigs and while they provide some nice systems and are backed by huge marketing, some of their good stuff is drowned out by junk entry level shocks. I feel Kings are a step above for every vehicle in quality, performance and customer service. My only gripe with Kings on a T4R is they're pretty adamant about not exceeding 2.5" lift up front with their OEM replacements - I run 3" King OEM now until long arm next year.

I also mirror past comments that Ben at Filthy Motorsports is a good contact and his videos are great. Plus he swaps out springs if your situation changes or you aren't happy with height or stiffness.

.

Thanks man, yup still having issues.. I am considering a law suite at this point. it's painful and nausiating

Question though, who is Ben and where is he located and why would he care about the FOX problems. PM me if you would like to take offline.

Thanks again

I don't think that the 2.5" max recommendation is a limit of King... I think it's just good advice for the platform. And nobody else says it.

When shopping for shocks, it was between icon/fox/kings. I ended up with kings mainly because they are local to me, good customer service, and pretty much every off road shop in the area recommended kings (even if they weren't king dealers, although it might be a socal thing).

I also run mine at 3 inches w/ kdss....no problemo here either.

ben also said that, although he did say that 3" is ok with an extended travel king with aftermarket uppers. x1000 on ben being awesome.
