Kishan Sr5 Build Thread

Got a few updates on the truck.

The retrofit headlights have been leaking for awhile and one of the bulbs/ballasts went out during the summer. So I just yanked em out and put my stock halogen headlights back in for the time being. It feels like my stocks are just small flashlights compared to driving with my retrofit. But I plan on doing another set of lights whenever I have money/time.

Mounted my Maglite on the driveside of the center console area next to the shifter. Great quick access and it doesn't get in the way of my leg while driving.

I also decided to get the help of my friends to install my new OBX headers. Fair warning, I've never attempted a header install on any vehicle before, but this was by far the most difficult thing I've ever done. My buddy and I were able to get the headers on, but one of the exhaust studs on the passenger side wouldn't go in so I had to just leave it like that. The next day we went to a local muffler shop to get the exhaust done. I deleted the first cat and added basically a test pipe in its place, got a new glasspack and exhaust tip. The exhaust was leaking very badly because I had lost the donut gaskets that I needed for the y-pipe. I had to drive for at least a 2 and a half months with basically open headers. I went to another muffler shop local to home to get the leaks fixed, they fixed the stud on the passenger side and got the donut gaskets in. Fast forward 24hrs later, and on my way to college station, the gaskets fall out on the highway. So I dealt with the exhaust up until the other day. I ordered new gaskets from OBX, guessing the size, took them to Bryan Muffler & Performance, and I helped them knock it out. Now my exhaust sounds amazing and it has never sounded so quiet inside. I will definitely say that there is a noticeable increase in power and throttle response. But I need to pull my EFI fuse & relay to reset the computer. Currently its stuck running very rich because of the last several tanks of open headers.

Stock header is so restrictive

I will get more pictures of the headers later on today, but they definitely look good.

Also I bought a grille from michaeljtomey. Freaking love it, and it looks sick. I also have always wanted to setup Raptor style LEDs in my grille and I did that as well. Felt nervous drilling into my beautiful grille, but it was worth it.

Stock POS grille that I painted in 10th grade

New goods

I also discovered that the trucks valve cover gaskets definitely need replacing and there might be a leak at the cam seal or on the front of the block. I'll have to tear into it during thanksgiving break, but for now I'll just keep checking the oil level and adding when necessary. Doesn't seem to be losing any level, but it looks wet in a lot of areas after I drive.

More pics and videos to come...

Haven't done an update since the middle of last semester so here are some updates.

Took the truck mudding at my buddies place early December and almost hydrolocked my motor. Went into a mudhole too fast and as I almost reached the top of the other side, the engine just died. I tried starting it and it would crank but my buddy inside told me not to do that. Had to get pulled forward some to be clear to check it out. Pulled the 1st plug on the driver side to check for water, seemed fine. Bumped it with no plug in it to clear out water and none came out. Put the plug back in and she fired up after a try or two. Ran rough for about a minute and then she sounded smooth again.

Lesson learned: don't go ramming through mud puddles with a CAI. Snorkel time.

Also did some maintenance on the truck before a big trip to Big Bend National Park with some buddies I went to highschool with. (Pics for the trip will be in next post.)

Truck had been pulling to the left severely under hard braking. I had multiple alignments done and the tires rotated/balanced several times to try and narrow it down. I checked the front brakes thinking that a caliper is seized. Bled all the brakes to figure it out, nothing worked. Gave up and took it to Just Brakes so they could throw it on the lift for their free diagnostic. Turns out both lower ball joints were bad as well as the driver upper. Also the passenger rear brake shoes were very worn down. Uneven with the driverside.

So I took it upon myself to install new OEM lower ball joints, Orielly's upper ball joints, and new rear drum brakes/hardware. Got the truck aligned after i was done and she feels completely new. Better than shes ever felt.

Big Bend Trip

It was a 10-11 hour drive each way. Over 1400 miles round trip, with 6 college kids in the truck (including me). Truck made it without any mechanical problems whatsoever. Only hiccup during the road trip was when we were passing by San Antonio on I-10 West. There was some ice on the road that I did not know about. I was going westbound on I-10. I get into the left lane so that I may pass some pickup, then all of a sudden I feel the back end slip and the car starts rotating clockwise. I immediately let off the gas pedal, and start counter steering it back and forth to keep it from going into other vehicles and ended up pulling myself into the grass area of the median. Needless to say my sleeping friends were woken up by that incident. Other than that event, everything else went just fine.

We left on the morning of December 6th and got there around 7pm ish that night. We got an awesome cabin to stay at in Terlingua, TX. Which happened to be the city/town right next to the park. Talk about small town feel. 1st day we explored the park and I took my 2WD truck all the way through Old Ore Road without any hiccups whatsoever. Now had it rained and been muddy that would have been a different story. Next days were spent doing some hikes and taking a tour of the Rio Grand River. If it were up to me, I would have spent the whole 4 days there just doing offroad trails, but my friends would not have liked that.

PICTURES
Forgive me for spamming pics but I was just fascinated by the drive.

My friends and I. I'm the first one on the left.

Big Bend Trip Pt.2 (Old Ore Road)

Airing down to roughly 20psi seemed to work really well. Didn't want to go too low to break the bead. Also my air compressor sucked so that too.

Longhorns always ruining pictures.. smh...

Big Bend Trip Pt. 3 (Rio Grande & Everything else)

If we had brought our passports, we could have gone into Mexico. Which would have been pretty interesting.

Rio Grande was dirty as hell. But still a cool sight to see and check off the bucket list.

Saw a coyote

After hike refreshing brew.

All packed up, on the way back.

All in all, I had a blast on this trip. And I honestly can't wait to come back again and also explore other parks in this country. The truck handled everything absolutely fine. Although I would definitely like to come back and explore even harder trails once I have 4WD.

Exhaust update. After driving that big bend trip with that annoying glasspack. I had enough. Got it chopped off and had a flowmaster 40 series muffler welded in its place. Best decision ever. Pretty much the perfect sound I was looking for all along. Highly recommend to anyone.

Also in other news, I ordered my Aggie Ring!
