Knock Sensor and Knock Sensor Wiring Harness Replacement

Hey Dudes, if you have the 3.4 Liter engine and you're faced with a CEL code related to the Knock Sensors or the Knock Sensor Wiring Harness, this video will show you how to swap them out.

Ironically the reason I joined this forum was to look for advice on this issue. Took me the better part of 3 months and maybe 5 attempts to capture the gremlin, going as far as to buy an oscilloscope to compare waveforms between sensors and harnesses. Very finicky and frustrating job, Toyota really couldnt have put them in a worse location, except maybe behind the block. I'm sure this video will be much appreciated and the information was very limited at the time. :cheers:

agree its a bad location, and when I did some the harness just crumbled in my hands..from heat and I wondered if that might have really been my problem
but replaced with new knock sensors and harness

When I replaced my knock sensors, I too found out that only the harness was broken, and not the sensors at fault.

There's nothing particular I'm really hoping to see, outside of how they generally perform. To me they seem like a very worthwhile investment already, purely because of how cheap it makes future LBJ replacements (only $40 a side? A steal!)
I guess my biggest concern would be how well they hold up to mud/wet environments since theres no shortage of it here in the PNW, and it doesn't always play nice with uniballs... Nobody like squeaking!
That being said, I'm trying to find a way to boot them right now. Recently I bought some used LCAs from a forum member and he left on the LBJs (rusted on pretty good). Despite being clearly aftermarket, they had this weird kind of "secondary" boot that went completely over the main one and part of the stud as well and was secured by the mounting bolts - basically just one big tube and a smaller one molded together. I can't find a single thing about them online so tomorrow I plan on taking a picture at work and uploading it, maybe someone here recognizes them. If new ones can be found I have a pretty good hunch they would work wonders, or at least be better than nothing

Well it seems I may have misremembered the boot I was talking about, so JZiggy might be our best hope. I could've sworn these were more encapsulating like I described but I dug them out the trash and they appear to just be an odd rubber collar of sorts that just kinda sits there. Strange nonetheless but I don't think it would offer much protection, now that I get a better look
