KO2 no traction -Scary!

Against my better judgment, I recently bought the KO2’s in c rating. As I mentioned earlier, I knew they would have poor wet traction due to my past experience with the ko’s. My thought was I also have a Chevy traverse and I will just drive it when it rains. This past Sunday I drove down a dirt road that I have gone down a 100 plus times and almost got stuck. I never had a problem before these tires. Three days before I drove down it same conditions in my two wheel drive traverse, never spun a tire! Mind you I never had a second thought when I drove my Volkswagen Jetta the 30 or 40 times down this road! With my terra grapplers no 4 wheel drive, never spun a tire! Two days later, I went back with my buddy in his F-150 with street tires and he drove straight through, 2 wheel drive, and never spun like it was nothing. On our way back, we pulled over to let a freaking Nissan Altima go past in the same section I had to 4 wheel drive in! and still had a hard time. I have never been so freaking embarrassed! These tires are crap! I almost had to air down to drive through 100 yards of 2 inch deep sand that a Altima had no problem with! And this whole time I was worried about wet weather performance!

I’m shocked given how good these performed for me at an off-road park mixed with lots of loose gravel, hard-packed dirt, mud and sand...with decent inclines. I’ve never once griped about their off road prowess.

To be fair. the off road traction is excellent. I ran/up down snow covered dirt roads hunting while others where stuck.

To put this in perspective for me. I drive 90% on the road so these tires don't work for me. The wet road traction is very bad. The tires were fine until I hit 20K and then over the next 5K went south to the point of (IMO) being dangerous. Now just under 26K on them and switching out tires next week.

How long did it take to get to 20k miles?

Have tried Cooper AT3, Kumho RV AT51, and K02 and in snow the K02 is significantly better in my opinion than the others two brands. The Kumho, even with snowflake symbol, sucked period.

Never had any issue with K02 in rain or snow, but generally I am cautious with any tire in rain no matter what they say as road oil, etc... mixes with any rain to create uncertain situations.

BTW - the KO2 kicks butt in the snow for a non-dedicated snow tire (and A/T)...I do at least 150 days in the mountains above 8000 feet and have been through all conditions with the KO2 and they have never let me down. I can't say the same thing about Kumho though. I just replaced my Kumho after just one winter season they are so bad.

It also helps to be full-time 4 wheel drive.

C load? Do you air down a bit for any snow trips in the Sierra? Looking forward to winter

For what it's worth I just drove through West Virginia all day yesterday during torrential downpours up and down some mountains (loose gravel, tons of leaves, etc.) and then through windy back country roads. Never once had a traction issue.

KO2 C-load 285/70/17, with about 3k on them. Hoping I have a better experience with these wheels than some of you folks here...

Mine where fine with 3K on them. Good luck and be careful once you get up around 20-25K

Ummm

My BM x5m was terrible in the wet, like lethal on the stock RF tires and then the switch to Goodyear eagles was only slightly better. Switching to the 4Runner on KO2's for me have been much MUCH better wet weather driving experince, these are my first KO2's and the stock nittos on the pro weren't anywhere near as good imo.

My experience is driving the FL, 40psi on C rated and now @20k

Maybe it's a tire rating thing? Compound etc? My experience is more fast cars and tbh the KO2 gave me confidence in the wet that I've never experienced in other cars and more expensive tire but then I've always loved a summer tire

My subjective experience with KO2s: they do slip off the line, especially when wet. And they tend to slide under hard braking. Not crazy but noticeable. Haven't had any bad/unstable experiences in the rain though. And off-road they've served me well aired down. There is no "everything" tire.

I finally caved and bought snow tires which have been amazing on ice so far. We'll see how they do in heavy snow. Couldn't get Blizzaks so ended up with Michelin Latitude X-Ice XI2. To me if was worth the investment here in Minnesota.

Did BFG improve the KO2’s recently? I notice there are 2 different part numbers for the tire of the same size & load rating.

I believe there's a "DT" version from BFG (Different Tread). This newer version doesn't have the 3 mountain peak snowflake symbol but has softer tread compound according to the rep at America's Tire.

We had some pretty wet summer and fall days in NYC. 13K miles into it, so far so good.

Today we had our first snow. Not the powdery stuff, but the wet and heavy snow. Not much much in accumulation, about 2 to 3 inches of it. Enough to paralyze inside streets with a slight grade. Buses and cars stuck in the middle block and line of traffic blocking intersections of major roadways.

It's events like this reminds me of why I got the 4Runner and KO2 tires. It has served me well on dirt/muddy roads, at the beach, city streets, and highways.

If it matters, I am using C Load with tire size of 265/70/17 and my daily PSI is 40 front, 38 rear.

I have had my KO2's for over two years here in Colorado and have nothing but great things to say about them in any condition. Like most states, the biggest challenge are the folks that have no clue how to drive in the snow. Driving the speed limit and above usually leads to spinouts and dates with the guard rails.

Very true. You need to respect the laws of physics.

I'll be honest, because of this thread I was a bit concern to put the KO2s on my new t4r especially because I live in the province of Quebec and we do get a lot of snow....

today was the first snow storm and I got my KO2s on yesterday... of course in 2H it will slip just like any other RWD vehicule.... but once I got into 4H... OMG I WAS SHOCKED, the amount of grip I had was amazing and that's coming from a guy that was driving a WRX with dedicated winter tires.... like any other car if you slam on the breaks ABS gonna kick in... you really have to adapt your drive and you would be fine!

even on the snow I had to press so hard to get a bit of slipping when starting from a complet stop, so idk why poeple saying they slip in the rain... must have a super heavy foot
