So who’s going and who’s been? I’ve been wanting to go for years, gonna make it happen this time I swear lol.
Never been to JV so looking at a map and trying to find out where the best spectating spots are is pretty confusing

I have been a couple of times.. let me dig around and i will get you some info about the best spots.. Are you camping?

Gonna keep an eye on this. I think Koh is the same week as I'm planning a return to dv so long as I'm healed and the rig is ready. Need to see what's going on in the next 3 weeks.

Been to KOH a few times, but on the support side of things. Not sure if I'll be going this year yet. It's definitely a good time. I always stay in hammertown and yeah it gets very dusty especially if there is no breeze.

The three main spectator areas (outside of the start/finish line) are Backdoor, Chocolate Thunder and Jackhammer/Sledgehammer because they're the easiest to get to. I've only gone to the last two of which Chocolate Thunder is my favorite. It gets super crowded though. You can pretty much go anywhere so long as you stay off the course. The course changes (not sure how much) every year so you'll want to get a map of it prior to.

The pits off Bessemer Mine road could be a good spectator spot too. Last year they passed through there twice at the beginning of the race. Both times I've manned the pits at that location there was a lot of action. Not sure how close you can get though because wristbands are needed in the immediate pit area. Looking at a satellite view it's the clearing North of Soggy Dry Lake where the road cuts NE. It's next to a black mountain formation.

Biggest issue is getting through the gates on the last couple days, it sucks because there's always a line to get in. Easy to bypass though :).

EDIT: The night before the big race the have the power hour. It's located near the start finish and the rigs run a short course one at a time. At night on the days leading up to the race spectators take their rigs up Chocolate Thunder. Pretty fun to watch beaters have a go at it. The area is well lit too.

We stayed near hammertown one year but not super close to the road or pits. It’s dusty but tolerable. It gets extremely crowded out there though, so be careful when your out and about. The Shootout is always fun to watch, especially if it’s not super cold and windy. There are maps on the internet if you search. We just winged it when we went for a camping spot. As for spectating Chocolate Thunder, Backdoor, Sledgehammer and Jackhammer are the big spots. It’s also cool to check out the long high speed whoop sections too.

I think Miah has a few spots marked on his map a few miles away from hammertown. We’re just gonna wing it and go with the flow
