Large Eezi-Awn Camp Table Mounted under 2.2M k9 rack on 2016 4Runner

Thanks to several threads with helpful pictures, I modified my shark fin XM antenna and installed my 2.2M k9 rack. Then I decided I wanted to add the Eezi-awn table mount so I could make use of the space between the rack and the vehicle. Somehow I had gotten the impression that the medium table was the biggest that could fit. Maybe it was pictures I saw here with medium tables. But after discussion with Paul at Equipt about the 5th Gen 4Runner and large table dimensions, I installed the Eezi-Awn table mount with a large table.

These first pictures show the overall end product (minus the table so you can see more detail):





For the finless XM antenna mod, I started with this thread. I posted several pictures in that thread to help those who might want to go with a "naked" XM antenna like I'm trying.

Then I installed the rack (thanks to help from a friend and this thread). It would have been smarter to install the table mount onto the rack before installing the rack onto the 4Runner, but I didn't have the info on which size to order and I was excited to install the rack. It actually wasn't that bad installing the table mount with the rack already on the vehicle.

The confusion as to whether the large table would fit came from the overall width dimension when you stack the table width plus two mounting brackets and fit that between the feet that hold the rack to the rack rails. So I asked for more details from Equipt before placing my order.

From Paul at Equipt:

The Large table was made for us by Eezi-Awn 2" narrower than the XL table, specifically to fit under the 5th Gen 4Runner rack. It is 700mm x 1160mm, or 27.56" x 45.67". The Z channel that the table mount is made of requires 35mm of rack width for the mounting hardware to attach it to the rack. There are 2 channels, so that adds 70mm in width. This makes the combined width of the table and table mount 770mm, or 30.31".

I measured the available space between the feet along all five cross beams:

1. 31 1/4"
2. 31 5/8"
3. 32 1/4"
4. 33"
5. 33 5/8"

In these photos you can see that even with the large table and the mounting rails, there is about 1/4-1/2" space between the table mount rails and the rack feet. Woo!





With the table in place (yeah, I haven't removed the protective film yet), you can see there's ample room between the naked XM antenna and the table mounted under the rack.



I have one more thing I'd like to point out. When I installed my rack, I positioned it as far forward as possible, to leave clearance for the lift gate. I'm really glad I did this because I didn't think about the latch that holds the table in the rack mount and its clearance with the lift gate. Note that there is still a little clearance, but it's really close and I'll be keeping an eye on it over time.

Nice write up. I have a possible suggestion for protecting the hatch if that clearance bothers you. Try a small metal plate like people use for the dash mounts for GPS's (Garmin). They come as 2 - 3" disc shapes, mount with foam tape, and are low profile. It would be invisible to anyone not specifically looking for it but it would be a buffer point of contact between the latch and your hatch if they ever do get too close.

Thank you for posting this. I've been going over numbers on how low I can get a frontrunner and still run the table (similar design as the K9). This helps a lot.

Thanks for the idea. I hope it doesn't come to that, but prevention might be better than reaction since things can shift over time. I actually just ordered some 3M vinyl for the hood scoop. I might take a leftover piece and put a little patch up there.
