LASFIT Ditch Lights Review and Installation

TL;DR: Amber driving optic 36watt ditch lights, pics. Last 2 are how the front end currently sits minus the small S2's behind the grille (THEY ARE NOT RAPTOR LIGHTS lolol), those are now rear facing on the roof rack.

LASFIT gave me the opportunity to test a set of their lights with the A pillar brackets to run as ditch lights on our 4runner. I selected amber lens with the driving optics. I figure I can point them down to the sides if i want, or when doing more go fast stuff I'll point them out a little less and not down. Driving optic should work either way with minimal hot spots like spot pattern would do. And in my experience a "flood" beam is useless.

These are 36 watt lights. I'd love to test them and see how much they actually pull, and measure lumens, but I don't have the equipment, maybe I'll see if crashburn on tacoma world has already done these. (I know he did review one set a while ago, not sure which ones they were from Lasfit)

Shipping was crazy fast, packaging is fantastic, brackets and hardware all seem to be pretty standard for the industry.

Lights feel solid, they only use 2 screws on the bezel, I'd prefer 4, but if they don't like then that's pointless. So time will tell on that one. I love the Deutsch connectors. standard 2 pin connectors SUCK (TALKING TO YOU BAJA DESIGNS). Heat sink seems pretty deep, but these aren't the fancy machined/billet aluminum like Baja designs. However, there is literally nothing wrong with the housings, and the top "visor" looks pretty cool. (Afterall, that's what this is really about right?) Lasfit website says they are using TIR optics. These have been proven by Diode Dynamics to provide a superior beam pattern. So less spillage, better cutoffs, etc. This should translate to better lighting for onroad use. Offroad use, if you light up the entire desert, thats fantastic, which is what I love about Baja Designs stuff. They just use a ton of power and it's like I have the sun on the front of the 4runner. That being said, I'm pretty curious to see how a lower rated light with modern optics compares to a XL PRO from Baja Designs. (I run 3 of them on the runner bumper)

alright update on the hardware: IMO ditch the allen head bolts. Theyre always soft, and always end up stripping when you tighten them down with an allen key. A stainless hex head will look much better as its lower profile.
There are 4 bolts holding the bezel to the body, it's just 2 of them come in from the back side.
I Kinda wish the a pillar mount went a another 1" or 2" towards the outside of the car, it'd minimize the view of the lights from inside the car. I get why they sit where they are though, theyre tucked in to the body when looking at them from the outside.
The light mount itself could be a bit shorter so the light would side lower, and the one main bolt holding it down doesnt need to be that long.

Install was super easy. I understand why so many people run these kits from other companies. I used a clamp to hold the hood and did one side at a time. Wiring is universal, so there is A TON of extra slack. one of these days i'll trim it back

some night shots in the alley. theyre mostly pointed forward, itd be a waste to aim them to the side in the alley lol.

everything off is first, followed by just the Lasfit 3" lights, followed by just the Baja designs, and then both sets on.....


driving lights have pretty great optics. I'll need to get a better shot of them another time in an open area. As expected, the BD lights do wash them out, but the price point difference makes it an apples to steaks comparison really.

this one shows the wide coverage and minimal spill up and down when you look only at the light on the left. Before i angled it straight ahead. Not too bad Lasfit. (driving light optics)

Another update. Universal switch is as you'd expect. So i hacked it off, installed an OEM style push switch. The wiring for the switch lasfit sent is wicked thin. Use caution stripping it lol.


Does anyone know which color on the Lasfit harness for the switch is the backlight? I'd like to eliminate it as its making the OEM switch constantly lit up. Or....maybe i have 2 wires backwards. Definitely possible. [MENTION=151737]mrblah[/MENTION]

This is my issue. I want to tie in to the dash lights for the back light, but I run out of time to find one.
Even worse, the ditch light switch is next to the dimmer dial, lol.

Although on my DD setup, my setup is not off the shelf. I hacked apart a factory Toyota option that isn’t available anymore

It utilized a switch module that ties into the oem factory switch at the stalk but also had a secondary lead to add an additional factory switch.

I have no clue how to duplicate that and it’s not for sale lol

probably someone who knows how to wire up relays can probably do it...i for one.......have more cash than brains.

just the switch back light.. the push button the kit comes with is always on red/green depending on if the lights are on. So i hacked it off, hooked up an OEM style switch, now the blue backlight is always on. But the new switch backlight wire is not hooked up to the OEM harness behind the dash. I'm thinking I just need to reverse 2 wires.

Theres a ground from the new switch, so that went to black on the lasfit harness (black to black, makes sense, pretty universal.)
Green (Connect from your source with an inline fuse) from switch to red on lasfit
red1 (connect to your relay/accessory) from switch to yellow on lasfit harness.
red 2(Dash light circuit for backlight when headlights are on) unused.

start poking wires with a test light when the car lights are on but the OEM switch is off. The wire that lights up the test light bulb will be the backlight power. I didnt tie those wires in on my other switches because I didnt want to add t taps to the OEM wiring harness behind the dash. yea maybe once this humidity drops. i wired my switch up yesterday and just turned the car on to use the AC while doing it lol

alright update on the harness. Lasfit confirmed, eliminating the backlight on the switch isnt doable with their harness. No big deal, i'll buy a Baja Designs harness. Lasfit sent extra Deutsch pigtails in their box, so i can still use the Deutsch connectors on the lights. Just connect those to the BD harness, run my OEM switch on the BD harness and itll be just like my other switches. Backlight on only when the switch is turned on. Not an issue, just a personal preference.

So far, this entire setup seems to be fantastic quality. All of my "gripes" have been non functional things lol. (allen head bolts, length of the bolts, switch backlight, wiring gauge for the switch)

are you the one who cut the brackets down one setting? or am i thinking of someone else? I kinda wanna cut the top hole out, use the next "slot" for the bolts so the light sits closer to the actual a pillar mount.
