Ummmm...... I think you have forgotten what the idea of a fail safe is. Redundancy is good in that aspect. After all if your ball joint fails........ your spindle is no longer attached....... thus the reason for the Redundancy. Kinda like putting you high steer arms in double sheer. It's a Redundancy on purpose. No look at the pi ture or your own 4runner and look at the ball joints. One goes up into the lower arm, and one goes down into the upper arm, if they are tied together with a strap, or a cable they can not separate. Likewise I was planning on making each end pivot, ya know like a bushing or a ball joint, they move.

I’ve noodled about fail safe straps too. I think something under the LBJ itself would work, but I have yet to identify an elegant solution.

I cannot deny the elegance of it, but after seeing the idea in practic on my buddy's Odes UTV, I know it works. His lbj broke 2 years ago. In a pinch in the field he welded a chain to both control arms after the ball came out of the socket. He still has yet to replace the ball joint, but rides the snot out of his UTV. But his is not pretty.
