Leaking coolant from under passenger side

so to start forgive my inadequacies in describing the situation. I am not as knowledgeable as I should be

So the 99 4runner has rear heat. The metal tube/pipe that runs under the truck on the passenger side is corroded from nearly 250k miles up north

it is a slow leak, and seems to mostly leak after thermostat opens up. that pipe needs to be replaced. it is leaking right behind the passenger seat area, but under the truck

my questions 1) how simple/complex of a DIY job is this? 2) if I do it myself where is the best place to buy that pipe? 3) if I get a shop to do it roughly what should the cost be?

This is almost certainly the steel coolant lines to the rear heater. You can quick solve the problem by looping the connection on the firewall and lose your rear heat. Paying someone to replace with Toyota steel lines is quite expensive. It can be relatively easily fixed DIY with generic coolant hose from any auto parts store by sawing out the rusted pieces and fixing in place with screw clamps.

I want to keep the rear heat because my 7-year-old sits back there

The 4runner is now in the south and will not be exposed to snow/salt roads often, if ever

when you say generic coolant hose would that be the rubber hose instead of metal line?

JB WELD IT!!! Depending on location of leak. If you can get it cleaned and sanded just JB Weld all around the tube. If you can run it several inches on each side of the leak even better. If it doesn't work your out a few bucks. If cleaned spotless and sanded then cleaned again before application...buy you a beer if it doesn't work.

I might look inot that. my only concern is the general shape of that line is in bad shape. it might fix that leak but I think down the road the whole thing will need to be replaced. it is my DD and I would like to break 500K in it ha

but, might be worth doing to hold me over for awhile
