Within the past 6 months, I noticed that my sunroof leaks slightly. I noticed it when I would go through a touchless car wash, and the jets sprayed down hard on the roof, and I'd get hit with a drop of water. Once I discovered that...I'd reach back and feel the rear underside of the closed sunroof after a rain, and there would be some moisture there.
The dealer said this is a known problem where the sunroof doesn't close all the way, and it would be a 2 day job to fix. They temporarily repositioned my sunroof "closed", and told me not to use it, until I came back to get it fixed.
I dropped it off on Wednesday night, and the 2 days is turning into 6 days. One day was just waiting for parts, and then the job extended into Saturday (short staffed), and then they accidentally dinged my headliner while reinstalling it, so they're currently fixing that as well.
The actual sunroof repair involved removing the headliner, replacing the sunroof motor (which they said had some gears that lost teeth!), and replacing some cables that open/close the roof.
They also said this would fix a rattle I've been hearing in the sunroof.
The dealership is really good; we've been going there for about 14 years and they do great work. They are making it right (they gave me a free Camry to use in the meantime), so I can't complain too much. I have the Platinum Extended warranty which is covering all repair costs. But they definitely underestimated the job time.
Planning on getting it back later this week.
