LED Headlights

My daughter is driving my crazy wanting led headlights for her 2004 4runner. What's the best choice? Replace the bulb or the whole headlight fixture? Safe driving is what I'm concerned with the most. Any help is much appreciated.

NO! Especially for your kid... R u kidding me I hope u slap some HIDs in there and really enhance her visual reception with them. Give me a shout I can set u in the right path ask the rest. LED is not for that purpose. Maybe fogs but not for your primary light source.

LEDs probably wouldnt be a good idea for your low beam headlights, but HIDs would be a better (and brighter) alternative to stock headlights

Led headlights exist they're on the Platinum Escalade and some Acura's and Audi's. 4WP sells a kit to convert Jeep headlights to LED's I don't think there's a solution for LED headlights on 4Runners yet.

I've got them. Quality is fine. They aren't FXR Projectors but they're a hell of a lot better than stock.

Unless you upgrade to projector style headlights (ie 2006-09 style or aftermarket as referenced above) I wouldn't suggest HID's, however, if you have the newer style headlights I highly recommend these for the low beams:

I've been running the Digital HIDs (55w / 4300k) for about four years and couldn't be happier.

For high beams I've been running Toshiba HIR's in lieu of the stock bulbs. (All you have to do is file off the extra nib and they're plug and play.) Toshiba doesn't manufacture them any more and they've been harder to come by, but Philips makes a newer version. Presumably you could run HIR's for high and low beams on the 2003-05 reflector style headlights...

Manufactures like Audi and BMW are pushing the US to allow LED as a viable replacement to the current gas filled bulbs we use. But, if people on here are old enough to remember it took the US 8 years to finally pass regulations allowing the use of replacement halogen bulbs. Prior, all headlights were sealed beam glass bulbs.

New C4 LED technology is remarkable and far superior to most current lighting sources, I am looking forward to the day when LEDs are standard equipment.

Don't use the 55w kits in your headlights. They r useless... U will be just fine with the 35w.

do a true hid projector retrofit, get everything at The Retrofit Source online: headlight upgrades for all applications
retro-solutions hasnt been good to me anymore and i think they went downhill. do it right and use a good oem projector, ie ls430, s2000, tl, ls460, rx afs or rx350. fxr and mh1 are also good, but theres a big difference from oem projector and aftermarket.

Just get her some silvania silverstar ULTRAs and she won't know any difference from most* sets of HIDs.

If she is wanting HID lights, I would at least do a retrofit. If you put HID's in the '04 headlights it will scatter the light and be annoying to oncoming drivers.

I run their highs and lows on my '03 during the spring/summer/fall and couldn't be happier. Bright as hell and doesn't blind anyone, plus they survived multiple submersions in clay mud, coal mud, and water without a hiccup.
