LED Light Bar & Plexiglass

Has anyone ever ran a light bar behind a plexiglass roof rack fairing??

Im sure there would be a lot of refection and diffusion, but Id like to hear from someone that has tried it. Please chime in.

I've been wanting to make a thread asking this for a while, but it always slips my mind. I would like to know too if this has been done. I don't have a roof rack yet, but I will sometime in the future hopefully...

I have actually been meaning to try this. Either my roof rack or lightbar in the rack has a bad whistle @ 70mph and above. So I am trying to figure out a way to stop it but have not gotten around to trying anything yet:frusty:

Have you not put tubes in the fins or tried anything to quiet them at all?

The refraction of light wouldn't be ideal as it would mostly be dispersed at the 90 degree angles causing a major loss of light in the forward direction.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Maybe you could rig up a hinge on it and the plexiglass could be flipped up when the lights are needed. Just a thought.

That explains why some trucks have retractable light bars, at least if they're mounted on a head ache rack then they can fold backwards out of the air stream.

You can use small air line tubes in between the fins to stop the whistle. It's the air moving over them that causes that

There's a thread on here somewhere regarding a new Rigid integrated grille for the 5th gen. This got me thinking, what if we were to integrate a light bar into the wind fairing? Obviously it wouldn't be perfectly flush as the fairing is at a 45 degree angle whereas the face of the light bar is 90 degrees. The only concern I can think about it the top edge of the light bar and how much noise would there be with the wind flowing up the fairing, over the edge of the LB then hitting the upper part of the fairing that sits behind the LB? Make sense? You guys think this would create some serious whistling?

Any type of rubber or foam that breaks up the air going over the fins will help minimize the whistle.
