LED Lightbar - Size?

I bought an LED lightbar with mounts from another member on here. Installed and after some time and possible some crappy wiring, the lightbar is no more.

Looking for a replacement, I am stuck trying to figure out the size of the one I have so it will fit right back into the existing brackets. So that being said, does anyone know how the lightbars are measured? Do you measure the glass or the whole casing end to end.

I measured the faceplace and it comes out to just about 40" but if I measure the glass I am getting closer to 38".

So as a replacement do I order a 40" or 38" light bar. :der:

Not the answer you're looking for, but I highly suggest doing a projector retrofit before a lightbar. Much more usable light (as in you can use it every time you drive!), and better selection of color temperature (you can actually choose, and aren't locked into tacky 6700k). The job on the 3rd gen is very easy, and IMO easier than installing a light bar properly.

Subjectively, they also look better than a garish light bar, but that's completely just my opinion.

One of the reasons that I haven't done a retrofit is that I've read of folks getting cited for them. Apparently there is a law that bans them if they weren't original equipment on the model. Didn't seem to matter if it was a good job and didn't blind oncoming cars.

Does anyone know if this is still an issue? Maybe it differs by state.

You guys are distracting the original post.. He just needs light bar info not retrofit info :/

*If it were me I would find a light bar manufacturer and look up their specs and see if they provide a dimension drawing and see how it compares to how they list the light bar length.

You're probably confusing this with simply stuffing an HID kit behind stock reflectors, which is not what I'm suggesting.

But in any case, we should probably steer this back to LED light bars, although I know if it were my thread, I'd probably appreciate the additional insight.

Measure the whole light bar and round that number off. Search eBay and Amazon with that length and when you find one you're interested in more often than not the listing will show the dimensions of the light bar, usually with the mounting points in there as well.

Here's a 24" currently on eBay for example:

Thanks. I'll take a look see if they have the exact dimensions.

As far as retrofit goes boys. That's in the plans, just not yet. Need the lightbar for a trip to Baja, MX I have coming up.

Im pretty sure usually the light bars are measured from mounting hole to mounting hole, i could be wrong.

on our windshield, its 41.5"
