LED Reverse lights?

Hey guys,

I saw a Cadillac this morning with LED-looking reverse lights (normal white LED color) adn thought it would look pretty clean on the T4R. Has anyone done this? If so, what bulb is it and where'd you get it from?

i had a good idea those were some places to get them from, now I just need to know what bulb type it is.

I did this, I got the bulbs from v-leds. I got the cheaper ones as well as the 20 led fog lamps they have. I wired the fog lamps to the trailer wiring harness so they turn on automatically in reverse.

If you are only getting the bulbs, get the more expensive ones. The smaller bulbs alone will not make much difference in light output. But the definitely look better. I dont know why the 4runner's stock reverse lights are so weak.

When you say expensive, do you mean the 360 LEDs? Cause I saw the cheaper ones but they were directional. I would imagine the 360 ones would be much brighter..

So are you guys going to go with the 360 for reverse lights? I want something very bright, with my limo tint I cannot see ANYTHING out the back unless it's lit up by something outside...So When i go up to the mountains I have to roll down my back window hahah
 
Yeah I've thought about doing that, but kind of wanted something a little less noticable. I'll probably start with some LED's and see if it helps at all :D

I was the guy who wrote that stealth backup light mod. :D

I can't tell you how much more happier I am with the brighter light output than from the stock reverse lights. The lights are really not that big and you're hardly able to tell that they are there. They seem to blend in pretty well with my dark colored T4R. :bigok:
 
David, when you get your bulbs in,let us know how you like 'em. The shipping to Maryland is $18.30, so I'll wait to hear from you before I order. Mike

Hey, jacksonvp over at the Club Lexus forums has done a full LED swap including reverse and licencse plate lights. Check out his thread and you'll get a pretty good idea of what the reverse lights will look like. Very bright if you ask me. He's got a 15% tint as well and he says no problems seeing at night.

Thanks for that! I really would like to do that to mine. Now just have to justify paying ~$20 for some of those bulbs to myself :biggrin2:

no problem!

I followed his link for the reverse tails and he paid $50 AND he got the ones with 20 LEDs. The ones i were looking at had only about 9. Just something to think about before you buy.
