Lets talk about colors

No disrespect to guys that love silver. Please don't make this into a pissing match this is not my intention.
If I was going to rob a bank I would do it in a silver car, boring blah easily forgotten and a strong magnet for the older population, they would be looking for a older guy. Honestly I remember reading that someplace old people love white and silver. Maybe its their silver hair shining in the sun or something.

What I don't understand is why here silver is so popular with young active guys? Plus it is a very popular color choice. Almost every place I look is a sea of silver SUV and cars.

Silver is the most forgiving color for keeping a vehicle clean. Many of us use our 4Runners off-road and no color "hides" the dirt better than silver.

My professional background involves technical management for the company that supplies most of Toyota's (and Lexus) exterior coatings in Japan and the US. From a technical standpoint silver is also one of the most forgiving colors for other properties such as impact/gravel resistance, scratch resistance, and acid rain resistance. Very good lightfastness as well.

Yes, silver is very popular in today's vehicle market and not the best color for someone who wants some degree of "uniqueness".

I would still pick silver as my color of choice (for an SUV). Galactic Gray would be my second choice. Both colors (especially the gray)also match the primer very well and do not exhibit scratches and chips down to the primer as much as other colors.

Good for a laugh, and I have silver. I have owned 4 Grand Cherokees prior to this and they were

Blue - Silver - Black - Silver,

I do like that the lighter colors appear to be cleaner when they are dirty, but I approach the color silver in a different way. I feel it is a "timeless" color....meaning I think it is not so easy to date a car that is silver or another long running "boring" color. It seems like some colors are very easy to say, oh there goes that bright yellow bug....that car is from 1995....it seems some colors get hot and they have a run of them....there were various colors of green that were popular for awhile or putting the color stripe/swoosh down the side like Exploders did for a few years. But you can always "date" these cars.

I plan on having this truck for a number of years, 10 years from now I would like it to be hard to tell if my car is from 2002, or 2006 or so on....because there will always be black,silver, white in the line up....

Plus I have to figure a long running boring color will do better during resale vs a color that was only popular for a year or two...

Does this make any sense? maybe I am still hung over from the weekend...oh well.....

Driftwood Pearl -I chose this since they no longer offer the green, Shadowmica was my other choice but I can only get this on the limited.

White = my other car color
Silver/Gray = most common 4runner colors
Black = I had this -and will never go back

Exactly, silver is an easy to maintain color and timeless too. Flint Mica, is easily a 2004/05 color for most Toyota/Lexus/Scions. I got to admit, I've seen a few more Nautical Blue 4Runners... that's one hot looking color. If I was getting another 4th gen, that'll be the color. For the same reason why I like Indiglo Ink on the Tacoma. If Toyota kept the 4Runner colors simple without the metallic and flakes, like the FJC paint, then I'd easily get another color. The FJC specifically have simpler paint colors because it's believe that most FJC will be wheeled and it would make touching up easier to do.

I originally wanted an all black Ltd. 3rd Gen. 4Runner...that plan was shot down when I couldn't find any on the metro area dealer lots. Of course I asked some dealers if they could find one for me, and I'm sure they put a lot of effort into it, lol. Anyways, I found the '02 black & silver Ltd., now I just gotta make it my own.

Hopefully I can get the silver paint matched soon and I'll be all black.

I agree, to answer Falls original thread question, I think I would problably still get silver again, but the Nautical Blue would be a front runner as well, now that I have seen a few of them in person...
