LFD Off Road rack mysteries revealed!

Got the LFD Off Road Full Rack installed yesterday and can finally answer some of the questions I've seen asked about their products while I was researching.

It was well packaged and seems to be well-made with good tolerances and overall quality. Very happy with it and the install. Going to drive through some pretty crazy rain over the next two days so I'll report back on that.

One question I saw a lot of was regarding Yakima products ability to clamp onto their crossbars. From what I experimented with yesterday, the Yakima Skyrise RTT and Yakima Slim Shady awning clamps grab very securely. Tomorrow I'll try some of the newer Yakima bike trays and Skybox 16.

The crossbars are very sturdy but smaller than I thought, which is great. On the Full Rack, they have long slots across the tops rather than holes so I'm going to get my MaxTrax mounts up there and see how it goes.

My previous Yakima setup had my awning clearing my carport by about 1/4". The new rack setup gives me over 7 inches of clearance.

Really happy with it so far.

This is very helpful to me. Thank you! I have the 7/8th rack coming to me. When did you order your's? Looks fantastic by the way. I just ordered the side rails, two cross bars and wind fairing. I plan to make more bars eventually in some custom ways that I will be needing. I may still order more from them though just to have.

Right, was going to mention that I booked it down the toll lane last night and didn't even notice it. I could hear it with the sunroof open but I'm not sure how that's avoidable.

Powder did really well with the installation. Wasn't super thin and particularly easy to scratch. When I moved around the crossbars after having tightened them down, there wasn't an obvious mark or anything.

Man. That came out perfectly.

Exact amount of space behind for the RTT and I can still stand up through the sunroof to put the rain fly up on it.

Which ladder is that on the rear? Gobi? Any issues clearing the roof rack when opening the rear hatch?

Did you place crossbars over the sunroof? And if so are you still able to open the roof?

Yeah, it's a Gobi ladder. Not even close to touching. It's perfect.

The front crossbar under the MaxTrax is over the sunroof. Plenty of room. It also clears the antenna and doesn't mess with reception.

Are you still happy with the full LFD rack? And with how your RTT sits on it? Looks fantastic and seems extremely versatile. I also want to put a skybox, maxtrax, and hopefully a hi-lift jack up there... until I get into RTTs down the road.

For sure. Totally happy. My next venture is to get the Frontrunner RTT quick release mounts and mount them on the bottom-side of the crossbars for a low-profile setup. I have a big mountain biking trip to Northern New Mexico in May where I'll be using the tent a lot but should have several opportunities this Spring to test it and get it right.

I'm looking at a 7 gallon RoadShower to mount sideways behind the tent also. Post-ride bliss.

How is it for strength to have 2 or 3 people walking on it?

I like my steel 6 year old baja rack because it is super strong and we can all be up top on it to view the area when in the mountains or watching an event. Mine is a 2018 but I got this baja for dirt cheap from a wrecked 2012

But I like the look and versatility of these sort of racks using the extruded aluminum cross bars. So many mounting options for things.

Yeah, I think own everything Yakima offers! Ha!! All seems to clamp on just fine.

I personally use the ladder a fair amount. It's crucial for me when dealing with my RTT especially. I HATE packing the one I have up but between standing in the sunroof for the front, and on the ladder for the back, I can get all done pretty easily. I also like mounting my RotoPax on it when needed.

Nice rig, man! In DEEP consideration of different rear bumpers myself!

As to your question.... I have no idea. Can't say it's anything I've tried yet. Me and my buddy are going to be in the RTT pretty soon with a bunch of gear and water mounted on top which CAN'T be light, but yeah. Not sure yet!

Just installed mine yesterday and I had 1 question regarding the roof bolts and spacers. I believe I followed the instructions correctly but this just doesn't look right to me. I did apply silicone around the plastic bolt guides but I am still worried about water getting through and into the headliner. Does this look correct?
