LFD Off Road rack mysteries revealed!

Just installed mine yesterday and I had 1 question regarding the roof bolts and spacers. I believe I followed the instructions correctly but this just doesn't look right to me. I did apply silicone around the plastic bolt guides but I am still worried about water getting through and into the headliner. Does this look correct?

Feel free to contact us with technical questions. It is hard to see for sure in your picture, but it looks like the foot of the side rail is resting on top of the spacer, which it should. The foot of the roof rail itself really doesn't touch anything but the spacer.

As long as you caulked around the bolts you should be fine; we haven't had any leaks reported to date, and none in any of our vehicles. In fact, our 4th gen currently only has duct tape over the roof bolt holes, and caulk around the bases of the holes, while its waiting on its roof rails and it hasnt leaked either.

I put RTV silicone around the white tubes, not a ton, maybe about a 1/8th inch bead. I didn't use any inside the bolt tube itself. It rained a little last night and no moisture that I could tell, but this is Washington so it'll see its rainy days for about another 6 months.

Yeah, we've gotten so much rain since I got mine and no issues yet. I do need to go back and use RTV though.

Did you use any silicone/sealer at all? I was reading that you aren't supposed to use too much or it can clog up the actual channel causing water to pool but now I am worried I didn't use enough.

I used a conservative amount of silicon and it's been fine through some crazy-ass weather so far. I just want it to stay that way.

This is a great looking rack. I see you have an option for a light mounting bracket up front. What’s the most common way to get wiring for the lights down into the interior?

I ran the wires all the way along the rack back to the tailgate, and ran them through the same grommet as the tailgate wires into the roof, traveled in the headliner to the rear pillar, and came down the rear pillar and then back up to the front in the footwells.

So I sent a question to them via their website but based on some posts I read it seems as if they would rather answer via Facebook which I don't have. So the question is, did those that ordered from LFD outside of North Carolina get taxed? My cart added tax but I am in Texas and there should be no tax. That is unless the parent company has a location in Texas?

Regarding the 3/4 length rack they discontinued, I personally would rather go that route rather than 7/8's as I don't want any obstruction of my moon roof. Hopefully they will bring it back. I got a moon roof to use it. I only need space for mounting a Hi Lift jack and maybe Maxtrax and gas cans in the future. Hopefully a 3/4 length rack will fit all of that on it.

Also if I go aluminum, I don't want any powder coat but doesn't seem like an option on the website.

Also, for what it's worth, I space my crossbars on my full rack to let me stand up through my sun roof and put up my rain fly on my RTT. No obstruction at all.

I can't vouch for them on the powder coat, but my experience is that they will work with you on just about anything.

Jacob and Scott have always been expedient with responding to emails and that last part is absolutely true... whatever you may have a problem or question about, they will work with you to figure it out

Don't remember if I paid tax or not... but if you sent them an email on Sunday, you may want to wait till mid-afternoon Monday for a response. These guys are allowed a day off. I have been working with them for a year now, and all of my interactions have been fantastic. These guys care about their customers, and they care about the products that they make.

To the question of the 7/8ths rack... I have the 7/8ths, and the moon roof is still usable. I would say that 40% of the sunlight coming in is obstructed by our wind fairing. My wife likes it because we have a little shade in the front and bright sunlight from the back of the sunroof. That being said, I may be moving to a full length soon because I am addicted to "overpreparedness".

Now, usability...

Ordered two cross bars and the Hi Lift mount plus the windscreen. Liked that they had aluminum. We'll see how it goes.

Ordered the 7/8 steel rack for my '19 OR as its first mod. Overall, the product quality and customer service from LFD have been excellent. There was a delay in the shipping process that Jacob was able to explain to me and it was understandable. Wind fairing had some scratches on it and Jacob immediately sent me a replacement. No complaints whatsoever. Rack looks great. Install was simple even without any help. I was looking for a more all around, rail type safari look attachment which hopefully one day becomes available so I ordered the Light Mount-Cargo Stop Bracket in the meantime. Haven't mounted them yet.
