Lifted Limited's

To everyone who has lifted a limited... What did you lift with and what has worked for you? Meaning, if you bought sh*t Fox like I did and they gave you problems, what did you replace with and what has worked for you over the years?

I need rip out the Fox suspension completely, I have had too many problems and I am DONE with that POS of a company.

That said, what's worked for you? Exact specs please, esp. with Kings, they have a lot of options.

You’re in driving distance to king.... sent an email and go!

I’ve had great customer service with them and I’m on the opposite end of the continent.

I read about your experience with the fox setup... Sorry you had such a hard time. I also had a hard time tracking down parts from fox in the past. The customer service was awful. They truly didn’t give a shit at all

King has gone above and beyond each of the times I’ve contacted them. They actually care about their OEM market segment, and it makes a huge difference when you put down a bit of money for a suspension that you intend to keep and maintain.

Sorry I don’t have a LE and I don’t have any experince to share- I clicked on this because I love built LE’s.

I've loved my kings but I have the long travel so prob not lots of help to give you the part numbers. Since your down south, I'd go in to their shop! Sorry your fox shocks have been trouble.

Having had Fox, I'm not terribly impressed with my current Radflo setup. I'll be changing it up for a full ADS setup shortly here, haven them on another vehicle and have been super impressed.

Right now I've only got the Toytec spacer lift with new wheels and tires - what a world of difference those 3 things alone did for the LE. Next is side steps/sliders and either removing the rocker panels or getting sliders/steps that work on the LE. The OPOR sliders are my top choice, they just look so much better without that fat bottom rocker on the SR5/LE.

I'm a gal who doesn't take my 4R off-road that often... my brute Force 750 is my true ATV. BUT I'm glad you posted this thread. I'm not impressed with the X-REAS system, before or after my lift. I'd like to upgrade the suspension for a better ride, and in turn better when I do go off-road. What's the most bang-for-the-buck suspension set up? I'd rather not have to replace the UCAs and go all-out overland build - just something simple with a smoother ride. I see the 5100s mentioned a lot. Would I still need the Toytec spacers with suspension upgrade?

Bear with me as I'm a new gal still learning my way around all the options for my ride.

What went wrong with the FOX stuff? They have terrible customer service, but the product seems to be pretty solid. I'm going to eventually re-valve mine because I'm not in love with their super heavy rebound dampening choice, but otherwise I've been happy enough.

I don't think there's anything different between a limited and any other model suspension wise once you ditch the xreas.

If I were buying today I would probably go Icon for the valving out of the box, or custom King or Fox from accutune and spend a few extra dollars initially to get better valving.

good luck!

How much lift are you trying to accomplish? Also, what's your budget? 5100's are a great, budget friendly, route to go. I had them on my SR5 before getting my Limited. I went 1.75 in the front and 1 inch Cornfed spacers in the rear. I'm sure the ride won't be anything like the XREAS system. The 5100's eliminated the nose dive that the non XREAS 4runners have. When my warranty runs out and my XREAS gives out, I'll probably go with the same setup. Not sure about a spring combination to use with them, as I used the stock springs I had. I'm sure someone else can give input on that.

x10 on Fox iffy customer service lol. it was hit and miss for me. the shocks were beautiful and great offroad, fitment was meh for my titan.

Icon Stage 7 Lift

Hi Danny,
Sorry to hear about your Fox nightmare. I avoided them after reading about people who had them here.

Two weeks ago I installed the ICON Stage 7 Tubular lift on my 2015 Trail Edition. This set up should act the same on a Limited. I haven't been off-road yet. I just got it aligned on Friday, after correcting the KDSS lean last week. I'm planning a trip to Anza Borrego very soon so I will find out how it does off road then. For that I'll adjust the damping to max and see how stiff it gets.

But I got a lot of lift with the ICON shocks and springs - about 3". Now all the neighbor kids want to crawl underneath and play Limbo under my frame. :jump:

If you go with a suspension lift you do not need the spacer lift. You can accomplish the same lift you have with 5100s and proper springs. That would probably do it for you but if you are going springs the OEM upgrade Kings could be a realistic option at a slightly higher price point but I think would feel better. 5100s are a better bang for your buck so you have to really be honest about priority. With a suspension upgrade you will happier than a spacer lift. Spacer lifts are really just for looks/running slightly bigger tires but are not a performance upgrade. If you look about on the board there are numerous 5100 threads that go into more detail. This one is about another member looking to figure out a solution to a disappointment (and an expensive one at that). Unfortunately the more you open pandoras box with upgrades the more you spend and the worse it is when it isn't what you want. That is why I suggest you drive other member's vehicles if any are nearby. I know I have let more than one person drive mine and it has either confirmed or redirected what they want. It is likely the best way to make sure that you end up where you want to be. Otherwise it might be trial and error.

Filthy is good, I've talked with them countless times and they're very responsive and informative.. wouldn't hesitate to use them.

I thought you would've changed them out with all the hook ups you were asking me for. Did you even call the dude I gave you the number for?

Actually calling today... The last development just happened Friday with yet abother busted rear Fox crap shock..

I wantes to make sure i get the exact setup thats worked for LE owners so I dont repeat my mistake. Exact part numbers including any specific links etc. Wanted to have all that ready.

Thanks for everything :yo:

Big difference between limited and trail, im on my phone and will update with proper pics and links later but there's about 5" clearance of the sway bar with trails. Fox didnt test fit on Limited and therfore it was making contact with the sway bar. To the point where it knocked the coil right up against the shock.

In the rear, the first 2.0 set i had, the resi line was right up against the brake line because the lines were short. Igave them the benefit of the doubt and took it to them to extend.. They did and after that the shock blew. Went with 2.5 and the passenger just blew.

I dont so any rock crawling and i take it out like three times a year.

What makes all this an absolute nightmare is i have 60+ email exchange with them. 1. They are rude and dont guve a fk about customer service 2. Anytine i have actually got them to do something, it required major pulling teeth. Just look at everyone feedback of their customer service, or lack there of.

honda250xtitan What customer valving do you recommend?

Anyone for that matter, what customer valving is recommended for 80% street driving with desert and forest off roading. Not too much rock crawling but enough to clear obstacles. I do like to go fast in the desert, like Anza

why not try them first and frig with the shim stack when you rebuild them?

King did a very good job getting it right for the 4runner. They're great for crawling out of the box, and they're killer on the street. They gobble up huge bumps at speed like its nothing. I did a very large trip of days of forest and gravel roads up north, where I didn't see a hardwood tree for over a week. They performed so well, I actually bought a second set with the intention of screwing around with the valving, but when I rebuilt them, I left the shim stacks exactly the same. If you want a better ride still, lower the coilovers. 3" of lift makes the ride worse than any custom valving could address.

just my $.02

IMO NB_Rob nailed it.

dont crank the preload. In terms of shim stacks i can't help you, but if you tell King or Ben your driving habits and desires they'll know how to set them up.
