Lightening Round: Wireless Fobs Not Functioning

When I got this vehicle, I replaced the batteries in the FOB's around three years ago, one was acting up.

I rotate between the two every 6 months, or so. Lately, neither seems to work consistently, but not in a way suggestive of low batteries...? For instance, today when I got it to work, I hung up the FOB to get the mail, and heard the chime activate.

I will get new batteries today at O'Reilly's, but I'm afraid there is something wonky on board...if it is the batteries, they are remarkably consistent in failing.

Any quick comments are welcome (excluding, "You idiot...") LOL

If it makes you feel any better… both my 4th gen key fobs stopped working. My truck sits for long periods of time and not sure when the problem started or if it was at the same time.

I opened both fobs up and checked the battery voltage with a volt meter and everything looks good. 3+ volts on each. I really don't think there is a problem with the fobs themselves.

All signs are pointing to a problem with the receiver in the truck.

Whats weird is that on a couple occasions it started working and then stopped again pretty quickly. Not quite sure what’s going on but its rather annoying.

Try a new fob

you can get a new one off Ebay, one of the flip out key ones. Program it in and see if you still have a problem you can pick them up for $$15 shipped, worse case you have a spare. Recommend the VW one its small and high quality.

Can you elaborate on this please? If love to get a nicer looking and feeling key to replace the gray plastic rectangle we're given after dropping $44k on a vehicle. Is there a certain model to look for that will talk with our rigs? Thanks!

I'm still gonna just replace the batteries in them first, except nobody locally has any in stock, CR2016, so I'll get them from Amazon

Well, got the key fob batteries, less than 5 bucks, next day shipped. (My kids gave me an Amazon Prime membership for Christmas, really starting to like it.)

The problem persists with the new batteries, so eventually I'll let the dealership figure it out and report back.
