Limited w/ Hood Scoop?

If you are a Costco memeber, just use their Auto Buying Program. I usoed to sell cars, and know all the little ins and outs re: buying a car and what the stealerships do to make money.

I went thru Costco when I bought my 4runner, and I paid $150 over TRUE DEALER INVOICE. Also, if they try to make you pay for "Destination charge", tell them to F-off as the shipping of the truck to the dealership is already included in their invoice. Essentially, they want you to pay for it twice (since it is in the invoice and then again when selling it to you).

Also, be aware that if you go thru TMCC to finance, different amounts of down-payments can change the rate you got. I went to put down $4k, and my rate was 3.5% (I have excellent credit). I told them I would pay cash for the extended warranty, which would be another $1000. So, when the finance guy went to put in the computer I was putting down $5000, I went down to 3.25% APR! That saved me a couple hundred bucks right there! He stated, and I qoute, "We would normally keep the money from that drop, but I will give it to you." Gee----you freakin think!

2006 V8 4x4 Limited Invoice - $37,978 (nicely equipped including nav, and wheels) + whatever it costs to add/buy a hood with a scoop (just for illustrative purposes we'll leave that out)

2006 V8 4x4 Sport Edition - $33,729 (also nicely equipped with a fancy hood scoop)

Difference = $4,249

18" Limited wheels and tires ~$1,300 (this is what I got mine for shipped, plus I sold my sport wheels for $600, again for illustrative purposes, we'll assume you keep the wheels)

Mounting and Balancing - $75

Aftermarket Nav ~$2,000 (Eclipse, Pioneer, etc..)

Installation of Nav ~$200

This still leaves you with $674 (not assuming hood cost for a Limited or sold sport wheels) to replace the JBL stock system with a pretty substantial stereo or put towards a new exhaust or just to put away.

From what I've read the Eclipse Nav units perform as well or better than the OEM units and you can watch movies while you're taking a road trip.

So, if all you are interested in is navigation and the wheels, a Sport Edition is still your best bet. Just my humble opinion though.

That "Limited" badge on the side has got to be worth at least $2,000? :

At first I wanted to not have a hood scoop, but after getting the car and driving it, I love it! It actually feels "sporty" from inside the car, heh.

The irony about something like this is that the rest of the car is not judged as being purely aesthetic, but when someone slaps a non-functional hood scoop on, people cry "poseur". When you think about it, the entire exterior styling of the car does not matter when you are driving it, because you can't see any of it (functional aspects notwithstanding).

Anyway, what I think is ironic is that the hood scoop is perhaps the only styling element you actually can see while driving, and it actually does add some enjoyment...yet it's picked on as being somehow more "poseur" than the rest of the exterior.

haha, I actually forgot how much I like viewing the road over the scoop. That was actually the first thing I noticed when I test drove it. Remember, the scoop is actually functional if you have the turbo-diesel. Yeah, I've gotten shit for it too (on a non-4Runner board when I posted pics ). I'm sufficiently gratified by the existence of the turbodiesel to not be at all bothered by the hood scoop being 'fake'

lol...quit fuggin with us We have that huge (blangin) dark chrome grill to make up for it, anyway.

for my own edification — didn't all past sport models (even back to the 3rd gen) come with (fake) hood scoops?

Errrrr.......YEP! Even some of the earlier Limited edition models could be had with the scoop or "raised center windshield bug deflector"!
