...and that is the biggest reason I haven't already done the swap. My 2007 Tacoma and 2008 Tacoma didn't look bad with an aftermarket head unit, but I really don't like the look of the Scoche or Metra kits.
 
If Alpine would make a factory like surround like they have done for the Jeep and full size market I might be swayed. I want buttons and the factory knobs integrated and NOT everything that is driven by soft keys on the unit itself. Also, Maestro would have to map to the steering wheel accordingly.

I got my HU a Pioneer AVIC8100NEX for $804 on Amazon and all the wiring etc. According to the installer it won't affect the Safety connect but we will see. Getting install in about a week. I will let you know.

Exactly this. It's the only thing keeping me from replacing the head unit
 
Hope the pics post. Installed the Pioneer Avic-8200NEX didn't lose the safety connect and now I can see what my tires pressures are. Overall satisfied just got to play with it some more.

Getting back to the theme of the thread... Anyone's Entune system going back to the "home" screen after a few seconds?

If this is an option in the settings, I enabled it by accident. I would really like to know where to go to turn it off!

There's a setting for that. In General Settings > scroll to page 2 > Auto Change to Home Screen.

Therein lies the problem. There was nearly zero learning curve to use my phone. Not so with Entune.

The worst is the stupid nav system. It takes 3-4 back and forth exchanges just to map to a local POI (that's "point of interest" for all of you that don't speak Entune). Meanwhile I just tell Siri "Directions to ______". Done.

It's 2016. Entune is ridiculous.

Absolutely agreed.

No one has even touched on the constant locking up of the system when BT is on. On longer trips it locks up and restarts about twice an hour.

The solution for me was to basically treat Entune as a car stereo and nothing more. I deleted everything from Entune, and set it back to factory reset. I use a USB flash drive to play my music, a Garmin for nav, and I hold my phone to my head when talking to people. No more lockups.

Entune is total garbage. I don't really care in the big picture, since life goes on without it, but it's a shame Toyota couldn't get that shit right... or at least better.

Oh that sucks. I guess I'm lucky and entune doesn't lock up or restart. I have taken a few 4+ hour drives and used Bluetooth streaming the entire time without any issues. If mine locked up or restarted consistently, I would take it to Toyota under warranty. If they couldn't fix it or replace it with a newer unit that was problem-free, then I'd replace it. Definitely an expensive fix for a problem that shouldn't exist, though.
 
I've also never had an issue with Entune working with Bluetooth. Everything works great for me. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 paired with the Entune in a 2016 Trail Premium. Coming from a 2009 F150 with Sync, I have to say that Entune is WAAAY better.

The only "issue" I've had is that I can't have a passenger access the NAV to input a waypoint or destination while driving. Oh well, when that happens... just use Google.

The other thing that is annoying is I haven't figured out how to mute the voice direction while using NAV, which is also annoying, especially when you don't want to take the route they give you to get in the general area of the destination and it keeps trying to get you to make a u-turn to get back on route. :P

All of you that have issues with forced restarts and/or locking up... take your system back and make them replace it under warranty. That's not normal.
 
I think I know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway. Is there a way to get the apps from your phone to show on the screen. Like a map, fuel, internet browser app or any others that would be useful while traveling.

The Entune app for the iphone (maybe Android, too) can show some apps on the screen. There's Destination Search, Fuel Guide, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Slacker Radio, Saved Destinations, Sports, Stocks, Movie Tickets, Open Table, Facebook Places, and Yelp. I have only used Destination Search and Pandora. Destination Search is pretty good at finding places and then passing that over to the entune nav unit for directions. If there's a way to get other apps to show on the screen, I haven't found it.
