Locker just rear or both front and rear?

I am in the process of searching for locker options and saving up for them

Here's my question,
I was talking with a friend who has wheeled for years in toyotas about air lockers he Told me I should not lock the front just the rear. Since the front would just get me places I don't want to be especially with a v8 because it has enough power to just pull the truck and drag the rear

I didn't get to ask more on this but I was wondering if this makes more sense to someone on here

It all depends on what kind of and how much wheeling you do.
Unless you do some serious hard core wheeling, you probably don't need one.
And with IFS and a V8, there's more potential to break CV's with a locker.
Besides, you can always install a front locker later if needed.

For fun I tried searching for 4th gen parts on that site and all I got was 3 different coil springs. No lockers.

The TJM locker is actually specified to the landcruiser; however, The V8 4runner and the landcruiser share the same rear "toyota turbo V6 axle" with an 8" ring gear.

Just for the record. I attempted to install a TJM locker, setup by Drivetrain Specialists East Coast Gear Supply . Unfortunately the location of there pneumatic solenoid caused for fitment issues in my axle housing. the solenoid was pressing against the rear of the housing causing it to bind up and not unlock once air pressure was applied and released. They've been installed successfully in some V8 housings, oddly enough though there has been a few accounts similar to mine.

To respond to the OP I agree with the second post. It depends on the type, amount, and level of off-roading your into. The rear locker is going to tons of work in any off-road situation with or without the aid of a front locker. There's nothing wrong with locking The front IFS; although, when the front is locked you really can't make any turns unless your on really slick terrain. I consider my front locker my "I'm really stuck I hope this helps" switch. I only find myself using it when I've exhausted all lines with just the rear locked, steep descents, and when going over terrain that causes me to pick up one or more tires.

Thanks for the replies I think what he meant was it would not let me turn and push right where I don't want to go

I also found a grizzly locker for our trucks anyone running them?
