Long Island New owner 4 Runner Trail

Picking up new trail edition in Philadelphia on Thursday. Great battle between Grand Cherokee and 4Runner. Never owned an American car, so battle became limited or trail?
Don't need back seat, wife has minivan, loved look and functionality of trail. Going to do a lot of beach driving, looking forward to finding some places near New York to learn some off road driving. There is an event in the Catskills in hunter Mountain that looks good for beginners.
Does anyone know if this event would be appropriate for a beginner with a new truck?

Thanks for all the great advice here I've been reading boards voraciously to justify my purchase.

If it's an organized event they probably have trails for all levels.
But if you are brand new to offroading and have a brand new truck, you might want to get familiar with the truck first

And as someone who has had vehicles on the beaches (Assateague Island) for years, I'd never in a million years take a good vehicle out on the sand. The sand and salt will get in every nook and cranny, and you just can't get it all out no matter how much you wash the vehicle. All that grit gets into brakes, bearings, everything, and shortens the life of the vehicle, and it will give you a head start on rust. But that's just my .02

Took it to Wharton State Forest in NJ on way home from dealer. Spent a couple hours on trails. That was plenty exciting for me. Shouldn't be out there alone though. Great place. I'm going to try Stokes in Northern NJ.

HI there , new guy here just letting you know, I went to this place called Rausch Creek Off Road Park ,.. well the NEWBIE that I am I went along with a friend who wanted to get a laugh I guess, He said dont worry your truck is good, long story short he did not take me to and easy trail it was medium, For a stock 03 4runner V8 4.7 ..no experience boy was I scared, did the trail and finished it only damage was the orginal stepping boards bent a bit but am now hooked.,, just ordered shrockworks FB full skids ,icon 2.5 and soon getting 33 with rims and sliders

Welcome! Wharton is a great place to get your feet wet with off-roading, so great choice with that. I grew up right near there, and I've taken Jeeps, WRXs, Genesis Coupes and my old Crosstrek back on those roads. Good luck with your 4Runner. Can't wait to get mine!!!
