Look at this Scammer Craigslist Ad. It's a Doozy!

Hey Dudes, I couldn't help post this for entertainment purposes. I've seen plenty of Craigslist scammer ads but this one I thought was especially funny with all the mistakes that were made. Obviously this scammer is new to the game of trying to screw people out of their hard-earned money. Oh, and of course I sent him or her an email telling them exactly what I thought of them with my own flair of the English language.

Just wondering how the scam works? Even if half of the things on it are broken it's still good for $1500.
 
That doesn't look like all the CL scams I see. They usually use an email (usually gmail) and want to ship it to you and all you have to do is load an Ebay cash card and give then the #. Now if you call that # and they want to ship it to you, then it's a scam.

I just think the person is stupid. There's a lot of that too on CL.
 
Our engines are technically "hemi" engines as they have hemispherical heads.
It doesn't look like a limited though. Still, for 1500.00 may be not a bad deal.
 
The guy seems more illiterate than shady.

$1500, 136K, looks clean as hell, from the SF Bay Area so no rust or anything like that, probably never offroad...If 's the seller's as clueless as he seems that might be a good deal. I can swap out an 02 sensor and give it a 30K tuneup in an afternoon.

I might call em up. :nod:


EDIT: Weak. Flagged and pulled from CL. I guess I'll keep looking for a clean 3rd gen for my 16year old daughter.

How did the ad seem like a scam to you?

Thanks for the promotion, JZiggy. That's a serious comment even though I'm also motivated by the opportunity to increase my post count so that, hopefully, someday ..., the censors will permit me to come out of the closet and exercise my 1st Amendment rights.
 
The founding fathers didn't guarantee a free printing press to everybody...spend some money, get your own website and start exercising that right before it goes all limp.

Craigslist is the Mos Eisley of the internet. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."
 
Usually when a good running 3rd gen 4Runner is posted for less than half of it's market value, it's a scam. A parts 4Runner would be in that range though. Something that blew a head gasket, needs a new transmission or is wrecked etc.

In this case, the scammer makes their money by not actually being in possession of this particular vehicle. They post multiple ads, usually over multiple states, and try to get people to Western Union a deposit because they "have a lot of people calling them but they'll hold it for you for a cash deposit up front" or something of that nature.

You don't have 1A rights on a private forum. **EDIT** I do agree though that forced censorship on a forum such as this, shouldn't be the formal or normal policy. In a perfect world the audience would take the offensive speaker to task and intelligently break down the argument to principles based upon facts, to the point where the statement would be proven false (or true) and everyone learned something about the opposing position. Too bad we don't live in such a world and that there are so few places where such a strategy is even given the chance to take root. I've personally seen and had my world view changed for the better by such a place.***
