I have currently a 97 sr5 manual 4r which we love and one of my friends called me up and is selling his 98 sr5 auto 4r . The price is right, but it does need some work . I am capable of prob doing most everything it needs but not as familiar with the auto trans models . Things i do know ....
1. 262k on her
2. Popped the hood and it has the trd supercharger....need to do some research on it, but seems to be working as the boost gauge on pillar showed positive pressure almost 10psi on hard accel.
3. coolant looked free of oil
4. no smoke on start up
5. right rear axle seal/ brake cylinder leaking.
6. check engine light is on
7. told me it has new o2 sensors and maf sensor to try and correct c.e.l
8. body i would say is fair to poor with dents/dings on almost panels but no major rust.
so my ?'s
1. unknown trans service history....seemed to shift ok but i would think due for fluid change ....is this an issue to change fluid on these with high mileage?
2. what are known issues with supercharger in regards to longevity and can you rebuild or have rebuilt and what is cost of that? could i put the super on the 97?
I'm sure i will come up with more ?'s but that is prob a good start.

if it would have had the rear diff lock it would be sitting in my driveway now......
