I'm in the middle of replacing the parking brake hardware and brake pads on my V8 2005 4Runner SR5. I printed off a diagram for the rebuild, but not until the rebuild did I realize it was not quite the same. Infact I can't seem to find one that is. All the diagrams I find show the parking brake shoe lever on the opposite side of the hub assembly. Is it possible that somehow the entire brake assembly was mounted backwards? One the passenger side the E-brake cable comes through the lower right and points toward the rear. The caliper on that side is mounted on the upper left hand side, but the brake hose comes off on the right side on the top. The driver side didn't match the diagram either. I really don't see how this is possible, but I do know whoever messed with it last didn't put the rubber boots in the right places. IDK, someone please help! Need the right diagram, or some pictures please!!

post some pics of yours, and link to, or post the diagrams.
there really is only one way it can be done. often times the lever gets reversed on the other side of the vehicle. they don't always match...

Without pics, it is hard to get what you are asking about. But just in case you don't know, the two sides are a mirror image of each other. If you are looking at a pic/diagram of the driver side, the other side will be reversed.
This is all I have for now...
I do have one picture and the diagram available. The picture isn't very good as far as seeing the parking brake set-up, but its what I had. I can get some more when I go back to the garage if need be. I'm fairly sure the diagram was wrong on both sides, but now I'm second guessing myself as I often do.

As I look at the two side by each, everything does appear to be correct on the driver's side. Maybe I should have tried to put this side together first and I wouldn't have had any issues. Is it common for the diagrams to show driver's side and then passenger side would be reverse?

Yes, as I said in my earlier reply, the right side is a mirror image of the left.

Does your 4Runner have rear drum brakes? From what i can tell of the diagram image is that is a diagram for drum brakes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.

We are talking about the parking brake system, which is a small set of drum brake shoes located inside the rear disc brake rotors.

Ok, but that sure looks like the diagram for my 3rd generation 4Runners rear drum brakes. I haven't had to mess with my 4th's rear brakes other than new pads.
