Looking for 1st 4Runner

Hello Guys and Gals,

I joined this site because I've always wanted a 4x4 truck and thought that would be a good place to start. There's a lot of good info here and I'd like to thank you all for making this info publicly and freely available.

I've had a Tercel, Sonata, four Z31s and an Accord, now in the market for a truck. I am still reading the 3rd gen buyers guide.

Here are a couple of 4runner ads on craigslist that piqued my interest.

That '01 is beautiful!!! Miles are a little high but it's a Toyota. It'll run forever if you maintain it properly. You really can't go wrong either way.

why the '01? I was leaning towards the '00. I guess I'm a sucker for hood scoop and leather seats.

Welcome. Guys can give you better advice if we know what your plans are for the truck. Are you towing? Plan on mild offroading or interesting in more aggressive wheeling? Is it going to be a hunting/fishing beater or do you just want the 4wd for bad weather?

I guess I'm just a sucker for that color! Lol! Like is said, you can't go wrong either way. Ultimately it's your money and your decision. I'm sure which ever one you pick up will turn out to be a great vehicle. It's good you're doing your homework on them. A lot of guy jump on a rig then regret holding out for something different/better. Good news is you have a lot of help here from a lot of guys who are very knowledgeable about these runners. Just don't hesitate to ask for help or advice.

Well, I would like this to be my everything family truck. Long trips with the family, fishing, hunting, towing and mild to moderate offroading, no aggressive 4 wheeling. Well, a TACO might be better for hunting and fishing..IDK..still learning
Open to ideas.

Tacos are great trucks, for sure. It comes down to whether you'd prefer an open bed or to have your cargo secure in the cab with you. Around here anyway, Tacomas are more expensive too.

A stock 3rd gen with a good set of AT tires will do everything on your wish list and then some. Good hunting!

Both looked pretty nice. But beware of CL deals that don't include a phone number, especially if the price is low. You should set up a throwaway gmail or yahoo email account to reply from because these are usually phishers or spammers.

I'm not sure of the flora in your part of the country but in the pix of the 2000 the trees look barely in leaf and there seems to be red bud blooming in the background. It buds in early spring here in VA. Suspicious.

Nervo19, the 2000 looked like sh%t when I went to look at it. Severe oxidation on the hood, however, the hood pic in the CL ad was nice. Mileage was off too by thousands of miles. Carfax showed rebuilt title. It was wrecked in GA some time ago.

Got me a 2001 SR5!!

The 2001 was great. One owner. He provided all the maintenance records. All maintenance was done in 2012 incl. timing belt change.

Negotiated on the price and when I got home there was an email waiting for me. He accepted my offer.
